Members of the Rotary Club of Delray Beach and
Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach teamed up TO STaff
a local precinct during the AuguST primary and
November general election
The two service clubs responded to a
call from Supervisor of Elections Wendy
Sartory Link seeking to fill a poll worker
shortage due the COVID-19 pandemic. Together
the organizations volunteered to
staff the polling location at Veteran’s Park,
which serves two precincts.
“Rotary and Kiwanis have always had
a friendly rivalry,” said long-time Kiwanis
member Ezra Krieg, who help coordinate
the project for the two clubs. “This was
an opportunity for our two clubs to join
forces in our efforts to fill a need and better
serve our community.” “It was great to
work closely with Roger Caine and Judy
Molica of Rotary to make sure everything
went smoothly and without a hitch.”
In addition to ensuring the polling place
was staffed for more than 12 hours each
election day, members of the two clubs
also went through a rigorous six-hour
training session.
For their efforts each club received close
to $3,000 from the Supervisor of Elections
Office for the two days. The funds will
be used to support non-profit organizations
serving Delray Beach residents and
to support community projects. The two
clubs hope to work together again at the
March municipal elections or other upcoming
elections.
The ‘Go Pink Challenge’ Breast Cancer
Awareness & Women’s Health 1 Mile
walk that occurred November 21st was a
huge success. Put on by The Hamlet Residents
Association & The Seagate Hotel &
Spa at the outdoor Tennis Center West
Yard, the event drew a masked crowd safe
enough to enjoy the day for a good cause.
Proceeds from the Go Pink Challenge
went to The Boca Raton Regional Hospital
Foundation to provide the most advanced
care for their patients, and raised money for
needed technological advancements such as
a fully digital, accessible Mammovan to provide
mammograms mobily.
In collaboration with The Seagate’s
‘Seagate Safe’ initiative, pink masks were
also provided. Among the local attendees
were the Palm Beach County Fire and Sheriff
Dept and Ginny Clark, Executive Director
of the Sands Family Foundation who oversees
its philanthropic activities to support
the Delray Beach community and beyond.
Children’s Charities
Boca West Children’s Foundation (BWCF)
held its 8th Annual $100,000 Golf Challenge,
on November 22 at Boca West Country
local children’s charity partners.
The golf challenge served as fundraisers
for each of the Foundation’s 31 participating
charity partners. Earlier this year, the
Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary
and the granting of more than $10 million
for projects that serve at-risk youth.
The event highlight was the annual
Duck Drop in which 600 (fake) ducks were
dropped from a crane with the “owner” of
the duck landing closest to the hole winning
$2,500. The event also featured boxed
breakfast, gifts for each golfer and boxed
lunch stops featuring lobster rolls, sirloin
slider, sandwiches and more.
Participants were able to purchase raffle
tickets with prizes including a $7,000 shopping
spree from Saks Fifth Avenue Boca Raton,
a weekend at the Boca Raton Resort &
Club with a round of golf, and a “Celebrity
cruise on the fly,” in which the winner can
choose from a variety of cruises on dates
that work for them, courtesy of Scott Grody
Travel. Raffle tickets are on sale through
the end of the year with proceeds directly
benefiting the partner charities.
Golfers had the opportunity to golf on
courses that have been ranked among the
best in the world, alongside St. Andrews,
Pine Valley, Pebble Beach and Pinehurst.
The event was socially distanced, with a
