Peter Pearman (Membership Secretary) 01494711570 www.hazlemeregardening.co.ukAlde HouseAlde House, like all care homes across thecountry, continues to face the challengespresented by Covid-19. The good news, however, is that our residents and staff havenow received their first vaccination jab whichwill give them greater protection in the future.Ensuring the wellbeing of all residents has beena priority over the past 9 months and continuesto be so. It’s great credit to the whole team atAlde House who, along with the support of theresidents and their relatives, have been able tomaintain a safe environment throughout thispandemic. For the residents, however, the constraints onvisiting has been difficult, not allowing thenormal contact with loved ones which is soimportant. It has also been a challenging timefor the staff with the need to wear impersonalPPE or having limited contact with thoseoutside the home, all making the personal touchso much more difficult to achieve. If notaddressed this can all lead to a distancing fromboth residents and the community which issorely missed. It is in this respect that ourwww.pennandtylersgreen.org.ukVillage Voice February/March 2021relationship with www.keychange.org.uk overthe past 18 months has been critical, bringing ina wealth of experience that the care team candraw on. Without it this would have been a verylonely time, not only for the staff, but the wholeAlde House community. The relationship withKeychange has enabled our residents to joinwith other homes, whether it be for an act ofworship or simply fellowship. This has been ofgreat benefit showing that we are not alone andbuilding a spirit of togetherness.Even without the pandemic, with Alde Housebeing a standalone home, it would beincreasingly difficult to maintain the standard ofservice we desire. The relationship withKeychange has enabled improved operations atthe home which will in turn be of benefit to theresidents. To build on this work, the Trusteeshave now decided that in March theresponsibility for running Alde House will bepassed over to Keychange who are a muchlarger organisation but with similar objectives. To all intents and purposes this should be aseamless transition with the team continuing toserve Penn and the local community, somethingenshrined in the Home’s charitable purpose.Colin Hutt, the outgoing Chair of the Trusteessaid, “we are delighted to have found anorganisation so aligned with our own values andfirmly believe that the expertise and resourcesthat Keychange bring will support the on-goingsuccess of Alde House in Penn”.Rosh Milner, the Chair of KeychangeTrustees said “Alde House in its wonderfulsetting in the Chiltern Hills is a real gem. Welook forward to continuing the work ofdeveloping a caring community for the benefitof those in the local area.”In this the 50th year of Alde House providingcare for the local community, it is significantthat these new arrangements with Keychangewill ensure that first class care will continue tobe offered at the Home into the future.
