Covid19 has failed to stop Kaiapoi mums
from supporting aspecial little girl.
Last year’slockdown put adampener on
the efforts of Kaiapoibased
dance group Hot
Mamas to raise fundsfor
5yearold Amaria (Riri)
Emery,who has arare
Amariahas CDKL5
include uncontrollable
epilepsy, andresults in a
The group had plannedtorun ahalfmarathon
Emery, aged 7, goes out for arun
with her little sisterAmaria in the
allterrain buggy.
parents to buy an allterrain buggy.
‘‘One good thing that happened is I
managed to take her up Rapaki (last
month)with the buggy we purchased
duringlockdown withsomeofthe money
we raised, so she could
come running with us,’’
Stephanie says.
‘‘It was really good and
she loved being out in the
fresh air.’’
The groupalso
managedtorun ahalfmarathon
in Queenstown
in November.
Amaria’s dad James is
runningthe Christchurch
halfmarathon next
weekend,not as a
fundraiser but still in
support of Amaria and all
those withher condition.
While the allterrain
buggy has allowed Amaria
more freedom, her
prognosis is not so good.
‘‘Amaria has
unfortunatelygone
downhill since lockdown,’’ Stephanie said
from ChristchurchHospital lastweek.
‘‘She has had some stomach issuesand
increased seizures, which is common with
her condition.’’
