BEST GENERAL-PURPOSE TENDEROne of our most recent Feadship new build projects wasthe 76m SHERPA. As she is an explorer (the second everfrom Feadship) she really needed a very reliable, hardygeneral-purpose tender. After considerable research it was decidedthat the SAFE 35 by Safe Boat was the best solution for the owner(NB there are other tenders onboard). Powered by 3 x 350 Mercuryoutboards she is extremely fast and relatively easy to maintain witheasy access to her engines and other technical elements onboard.Safe Boat not only build private vessels but they also build for lawenforcement, firefighting, military and search and rescue. They areextremely robust and able to handle the most inclement weatherand seas. Having already navigated the North West Passage andhaving travelled all the way down to New Zealand, the SAFE 35has really been put through its paces and thus far has workedseamlessly. She’s not going to win any beauty parades, but iscapable of handling the worst that nature can throw at her.BEST HELICOPTERNot the biggest but the most impressivehelicopter tender I have seen is thecustom Airbus AS365N3 Dauphinon the 99m Feadship MADAME GU – a newbuild commission by the team at CWP andfor a time, the largest yacht ever launchedfrom Holland. When it was delivered it was(and might still be) the only non-militaryDauphin to have a collapsible tail so that itcould fit into the vertically loaded helicopterhangar in the bow. Able to achieve over 170knots and with a range of over 500 miles, theAS365N3 is extremely fast and capable bynormal helicopter standards. To be completelyhonest, helicopters are not an area of specialtyfor me, so I regularly turn to my chief advisorSerena - a broker with Blueberry Aviation.Coincidentally she is also my wife! In fact, sheinforms me that the AS365N3 is now a bit oldhat and the best helicopter tender to have isthe newer Airbus H155 Dauphin… but it mightjust be because she has one for sale at themoment!ONBOARD | TENDERS & TOYS | 9
