TermPlan.<br />

While thenew commuter<br />

cyclewayfromChristchurch<br />

stops at Vickery St, association<br />

chairman MartinPinkham is<br />

hopefulthe council will<br />

proceed with theproposed<br />

recreationalcycleway along<br />

the stopbank, which hasthe<br />

backingofEnvironment<br />

<strong>Canterbury</strong>.<br />

‘‘ECanhas beenreally<br />

helpful andhas reconfigured<br />

all of their gates so it’s a<br />

continous route,sothey’ve<br />

alreadydone halfthe work.’’<br />

The councilhas proposed<br />

allocating $250,000 in theLTP<br />

to developthe cyclewayfrom<br />

the WaimakaririRiver<br />

motorway bridge to the<br />

Kaiapoitowncentre,following<br />

the stopbank.<br />

‘‘The council has spentalot<br />

of money developing the<br />

central Kaiapoi areaand it is<br />

imperative that the cycleways<br />

are located in places that<br />

makes access to central<br />

Kaiapoisimpleand safefor<br />

visitors,’’ Mr Pinkhamsays.<br />

would be agoodfirst step<br />

towardsthe Enterprise <strong>North</strong><br />

<strong>Canterbury</strong>­backedWheels to<br />

Waiparacycletrail, he says.<br />

The associationhas asked<br />

for $15,000todevelop15<br />

visitor mapsofthe Kaiapoi,<br />

The PinesBeach /Kairaki and<br />

Tuahiwi area.<br />

‘‘The community board had<br />

areally goodmap about 10 or<br />

15 years agowhichwas<br />

distributedand made<br />

availabletovisitors,’’Mr<br />

Pinkhamsays.<br />

thecouncilsaiditwas working<br />

on an app,but it hasn’t<br />

happenedyet andwethink<br />

that alot of people prefer to<br />

to do moreradio promotion on<br />

CompassFMand on<br />

Christchurchradiostationsto<br />

promote the Destination<br />

Kaiapoi brand.<br />
