My Husband has made a decision that we
should return to the UK and proposes to uproot
my son and daughter, who have only attended
school in Spain, and who are virtually Spanish.
He has a notion that we are returning back for a
better future, but for whom? He is able to work
online anywhere so where we are doesn’t matter
to him, but my life is very much here on the
Costa Blanca.

Hi June,
June, such an upheaval as changing home
and returning to a Country you and your
family hardly know anymore should
surely be up for discussion. You are not
your husband’s goods and chattels but
a part of a family that has lived here in
Spain for many years by the sounds of it.
There has to be dialogue,organisation and
very sensitive planning to bring about
any changes that only he appears to want,
anyway. Whether you are blamed for
digging your heels into the sand or not, it is
a question of a joint decision that embraces
the well being of all four of you and which
surely merits examining things more
closely than relocating on a whim.
My father has taken a girlfriend as a final
defiant gesture of trying to find his youth,
at the grand age of 80 years old. This
woman seems to have taken him over and
she is now making decisions that will affect
my future and that of my sister. We are very
happy that he has found someone special
to share his golden years with, but we will
not be manipulated, neither should our
relationship with our dear Father have to
change in any way.

If your Father has decided to take the
step of marrying his girlfriend then
there could be changes in the family
pecking order and you should be very
focussed on what these mean to you
as the two family members closest to
him currently by ties of inheritance.
Presumably you should be having
a meeting with your Father face to
face to discuss what the implications
are for the future. If you want that
this girlfriend makes your father
happy and genuinely cares for him
then she has the potential to become
financially rewarded by him on his
passing on, if she becomes his wife. The
silence and the not knowing could be
devastating to a situation that should
not be allowed to go out of control, but
which means, simply, that four adults
should meet up to talk freely and raise
any issues now, whilst you are all on
speaking terms. There is work to be
done here to keep a peace that embraces
the true wishes of your Father, and he
will adequately respond so that you
know best your future stances.
