TARRAGONA - THE ROMAN AQUEDUCT
Radiating Power and Stability (two highly
relevant concepts in today’s world), built
almost 2,000 years ago, the Aqueduct is
both massive and dream-like, solid and
surreal, a symbol of life and death.
As a monument to Ancient Roman
engineering it speaks eloquently and
exhibits a multi-dimensional creativity.
In total contrast we enter a nearby,
dingy Bar, some dirty glasses lying
around on two small tables, and sit
down on rickety chairs. There is no
ventilation to relieve the oppressive
heat of mid-summer.
Drinking cheap wine and munching
on oily crisps I feel a strong link to the
Ancient Roman-ized population of this
part of Spain as it too must have sought to
forget the heat of mid-summer.
The Aqueduct and the Bar remain in my
heart.
Non-Communication

They travel the same road,
one going east, the other west,
but neither knows which view’s best.
All comes into focus when they collide
on a stretch of road un-straight, not wide.
Communication now takes place, face to face....
neither showing respect or grace.
Words are fierce and few,
each ignoring the other’s view.
“This was your fault, not mine!”
“Don’t talk rubbish, you ignored the line!
Now I’m late for a big date!”
“It’ll just have to wait!”
“Yea - great!”
Was this all that was said?
Yes.... each shot the other dead!
