In honor of <strong>the</strong> UAE’s 50th anniversary, New York State<br />
has declared December 2, <strong>2021</strong> as Emirati Day<br />

Emirati Day <strong>in</strong> recognition<br />
of <strong>the</strong> country’s upcom<strong>in</strong>g<br />
50th Anniversary. Dubaiborn<br />
New York state Senator Kev<strong>in</strong><br />
Thomas made <strong>the</strong> announcement of<br />
<strong>the</strong> resolution <strong>in</strong> a televised speech<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> state senate.<br />
The legislator said that from<br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess and trade to fashion to<br />
education, New York has strong ties<br />
with <strong>the</strong> Emirates. New York is among<br />
<strong>the</strong> most popular dest<strong>in</strong>ations for<br />
Emirati students attend<strong>in</strong>g university,<br />
and one of <strong>the</strong> top five US states <strong>in</strong><br />
terms of exports to <strong>the</strong> UAE.<br />
Born <strong>in</strong> Dubai, Kev<strong>in</strong> Thomas<br />
moved to New York <strong>in</strong> 1995 when<br />

Thomas said while address<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong><br />
Senate.<br />
“Their National Day, which is<br />
celebrated on December 2 each<br />
year, commemorates <strong>the</strong> found<strong>in</strong>g<br />
of <strong>the</strong> UAE. But this year, it’s a very<br />
different type of celebration because<br />
<strong>the</strong> country will be celebrat<strong>in</strong>g its<br />
50th. President Sheikh Khalifa b<strong>in</strong><br />
Zayed Al Nahyan proclaimed <strong>2021</strong><br />
as <strong>the</strong> 50th year, which represents<br />
a def<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g moment <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country’s<br />
history.” Thomas added.<br />
Abdalla Shaheen, consul general<br />
of <strong>the</strong> UAE <strong>in</strong> New York thanked<br />
<strong>the</strong> senator for <strong>the</strong> honour. “This<br />
December, <strong>the</strong> UAE will not only<br />
celebrate its 50th anniversary –<br />
we will also celebrate 50 years of<br />
friendship with <strong>the</strong> State of New<br />
York,” he wrote on Instagram.<br />
“Strong bus<strong>in</strong>ess and trade ties,<br />
coupled with a range of partnerships<br />
through <strong>the</strong> arts, sports, and<br />
education, are <strong>the</strong> foundation of this<br />
close relationship. I thank Senator<br />
Thomas for <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g a resolution<br />
commemorat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> UAE’s 50th<br />
anniversary <strong>in</strong> New York State, which<br />
reflects our shared understand<strong>in</strong>g<br />
that <strong>the</strong> friendship between <strong>the</strong><br />
UAE and New York is set to grow<br />
from strength to strength <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
