Our website provides all the details, including how we address accommodations and privacy concerns. We also provide direct links so you can get your official Ontario Vaccination Receipt, and how to add any out-of-province vaccination to your Ontario record. You might find that useful beyond the GWSA. As we prepare to return, activity group leaders will provide group members with details on how everything will work. The GWSA ‘Launch Team’ is managing the complexities behind a gradual reopening. Many activity groups are preparing return-to-play plans for approval, and they can start as soon as September. You likely noticed that the Trips, Travel, and Tours group already has two trips planned. For those continuing with virtual activities, our new Livestreaming Video-recording Studio is ready and even permits multiple camera views for demonstrations. Several videos have been posted to show how that works. The City of Guelph is working to refresh the facility, through upgrades to the Evergreen Centre which we think you will appreciate. Membership expiry dates were extended from the date of shutdown, so there’s no rush to renew. We plan to prepare new membership cards for everyone, reflecting where we are now, so please update your information in RecEnroll now if anything has changed. We would like to be able to reach all our members. As we reopen, memberships will be restarted, and you’ll see a new membership renewal date. We are pleased to say there is no fee increase this year. It’s a good idea to monitor our website for the latest information. For now, stay safe, and enjoy your summer. We hope to see you very soon. The Sentinel - August 2021 — Vol. 45, No. 12 MIKE WOOF OBITUARY With great sadness we have learned of the passing of one of our Board Directors, Mike Woof. Mike has served as a prominent member of the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association, serving on the Governance Committee, and he has become especially well known for the technology assistance which he provided for the organization’s special events. Mike will be greatly missed by us all. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends. Michael Woof passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the age of 70 years. Devoted husband of Jeannie Woof (nee Campbell), proud father of Cameron (Christy) Woof and cherished grandfather of Benjamin, Elijah and Eden. He is also survived by his brother Craig (Leslie) Woof and many nieces and nephews. Michael is predeceased by his parents Harry and Margaret Woof. Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Michael, along with his wife Jeannie, spent the past 40 years building their lives in Guelph, Ontario. A graduate of Mohawk College’s engineering program, Michael worked as a design engineer for many years. He later went on to work for City of Guelph Transit into his retirement. Michael spent a lifetime actively involved in the community; at times a volunteer firefighter, event security officer and scout leader. He has been a proud supporter of the Elora Festival and, more recently, a board member of the Guelph Evergreen Centre. Michael had a passion for travel, a taste for good barbecue, and always looked forward to Sunday drives with the love of his life, Jeannie. Visitation was held at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Sunday July 25. A private funeral was held Monday July 26, 2021, by invitation only.
5 GWSA Email Update for the Month of July 2021 Seniors Connect: Registration Open Reach out to other seniors to connect with them! This year, Parkwood has been working to provide programs that meet the needs of all our community members. We’ve noticed that many of our seniors are not able to connect with their community with the current COVID risks and restrictions. We’d like to help ease the stress of connections by offering seniors in our community a program that will match them to someone they can form connections with. This program is self-directed, meaning the participants will pick how many times they’d like to connect with each other. They’ll also have a chance to pick which method of contact they prefer to use. GWSA members are being offered the chance to participate in this program. The program is specifically designed to connect seniors to each other in ways that work best for them. The Parkwood Neighbourhood Group would be happy to help form any accommodations based on the needs of any registrants. You have the choice to connect by phone, email, over dinner, by snail mail, over Zoom, or any other way you can think of! Register Now!
