OVERVIEW
St. Matthew’s House is a $21-million mission in Naples, Florida, offering faith-based, free market
solutions to poverty and addiction. The mission’s unique social enterprise model not only provides
a significant source of sustainable revenue, but it also provides those served with job training and
work experience, so they are better able to provide for themselves and their families.
St. Matthew’s House began in 1987 when a Bible study group followed the calling in Matthew
25:35-36 to bring food to a homeless population living in a nearby wooded area in Naples.
This “Task Force for the Homeless” began gathering contributions of both food and clothing,
establishing the mission’s food pantry. Throughout the years, community support helped grow the
small pantry into a multi-faceted mission focused on transforming lives.
Today, St. Matthew’s House continues to run the food pantry, along with two emergency/homeless
shelters (The Campbell Lodge and Immokalee Friendship House), addiction recovery services
(Justin’s Place Recovery Program), prison outreach (Collier and Hendry County Jail Chaplain
Service), transitional housing (Wolfe Apartments and Justin’s Village), and several social
enterprises, including 6 thrift stores, a breakfast and lunch café, a full-service catering
company, a car wash, an office rental property, and a hotel and conference center. St. Matthew’s
House serves all who are broken and come for help, without regard to their beliefs or religious
affiliation.
As a 501(c)(3), a 100% donation model allows all the administrative expenses to be covered
by the mission’s social enterprises – which enables St. Matthew’s House to direct 100% of all
donations toward the mission’s life-changing programs that continue to enrich and transform
countless lives in Southwest Florida.
St. Matthew’s House is blessed by a board of directors populated with successful and passionate leaders in business, law, ministry, and the community.
They are committed to supporting the next CEO in fulfilling the St. Matthew’s House mission. After seventeen years of dedicated service, President and
CEO Vann Ellison retired in May, and the Board is seeking a leader with a track record of leading similar-sized ministries or organizations. Above all,
they are seeking someone whose Christian faith is preeminent, and who leads with integrity, compassion, and a servant’s heart.
