CAB opens new premises<br />

CAB <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong> is open for<br />

business on Rangiora’s main street.<br />

The local Citizens’ Advice Bureau has<br />

openedanew officeat209a High Street,<br />

next to the Waimakariri District Council<br />

buildings, whichallows it to be more<br />

visible.<br />

‘‘We are open for people to comealong<br />

and have alook and see what workwe<br />

do, and just to physically find the<br />

office,’’ co­ordinatorTheresaEvans<br />

says.<br />

Board chairperson MargaretFinnie<br />

says the CAB has an opening theme of<br />

‘‘whenlife serves you lemonscome and<br />

see CAB’’.<br />

The local branch has secured anew<br />

recruit who has transferredfrom the<br />

<strong>North</strong> Island and speaks Mandarin<br />

Chinese.<br />

‘‘Anyone who speaks Mandarin as<br />

their first language and is seeking<br />

assistance can ring our numbertomake<br />

an appointment, but she will normally<br />

be available on aMonday,’’ Ms Evans<br />

says.<br />

‘‘CAB itself has volunteers of various<br />

nationalities, so if you call us and ask to<br />

speak to someone in you native language<br />

our volunteers can check onlinefor the<br />

time they are available.<br />

‘‘It means thatpeople can talk to a<br />

trained CAB volunteer in their native<br />

language, ratherthan through an<br />

interpreter.’’<br />

CAB <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong> will holdan<br />

official open day at 209aHigh Street,<br />

Rangiora, on Saturday, <strong>August</strong> 21, from<br />

11am to 1pm.<br />

Members of the public are encouraged<br />

to comealong, havesome cakeand find<br />

out whatCAB has to offer.<br />

Normaloffice hours are Monday to<br />

Friday9am to 4.30pm.<br />

The Amberley Bridge Club would love<br />

some new young blood.<br />

over the pastfew weeks, hoping to get the<br />

attention of anyone keen to jointhe club.<br />

It has held demonstrationsinthe library<br />

and has adisplay on showuntil mid­<strong>August</strong>.<br />

People were able to go along and watch<br />

gamesinprogress, ask questions, and take<br />

the opportunity to join the club.<br />

The club stresses Bridge is not an ‘‘old<br />
