It’s hard to speak positively of the Pandemic; we will all look back on it as a cruel blight on
our lives and as a time when all the values we hold most dear - freedom & the right to
decide, access to friends & family, the power to control our own destiny - were forcibly, yet
necessarily taken away from us. Yet, as we emerge and resume all the social and work
activities which we hold so dear, those associated with the hair industry can look back with a
sense of pride at their own strength, determination and resilience throughout everything.
Hair education went online and the
industry embraced it - now everyone is
talking about ‘going hybrid’ - combining
face-to-face training with digital learning.
That must be a positive, surely? Blended learning has been around for years, but who’d have
thought it could be so successful in hairdressing, where ‘hands on’ has always been deemed
as the only way to do it? Then, there’s been a similar approach at trade fairs. Many of the
great international hair and beauty exhibitions in Europe, Asia and the USA have drawn
from the experiences of lockdown and also gone hybrid by supporting face-to-face events
with digital platforms in order to include international visitors who are unable to attend in
person. This is just one more example of how, in the future, we can look back at the
Pandemic and how it’s changed our working lives – and that those changes aren’t all bad!
