NVNSA: Up and Coming

Hello everyone! I am
Kassandra Wong, the new
President of the Nevada
Student Nurses Association
(NVNSA) for the Summer 2021
to Spring 2022 term. I am a
nursing student enrolled at
the University of Nevada – Las
Vegas School of Nursing and
will graduate in Spring 2022. I
would also like to take this time
to introduce our current board
on NVNSA:

Communications Director: Mary Quilter
Southern Regional Director: Laurel Schultz
Breakthrough to Nursing Director: Alyssa Chavez
Community Outreach Director: Aleisha Wellman
We are all very excited to be on the NVNSA Board
and can't wait to see where it will take us. I hope
these roles bring us many opportunities to develop
and demonstrate our leadership within the nursing
profession in general and service events and activities
in particular.
The first event that NVNSA has planned is the first
seminar in our Work of Heart series. In this series,
speakers are invited to inform students about their
nursing specialty or a topic they want to increase
awareness about. Our first guest speaker is Robert
Erickson, MSN, APRN, CRNA. He will be presenting
on Saturday, September 11, at 1 PM. The NVNSA's
hope with this series is to help students find their
interests in the vast nursing field and open their eyes to
specialties they might not have thought of previously.
The second event that NVNSA has planned is a
student-oriented event before Nevada Nurses
Foundation’s (NNF) Shining Star Gala. This event
will occur at the Aliante Hotel in North Las Vegas
on Saturday, October 2, from 8 AM to 12 PM.
We are excited to announce that American Nurses
Association's President Ernest Grant will be the keynote
speaker at this event. In addition, we will have vendors
available for students to network with and an NCLEX
review session for interested students. On behalf of
the entire NVNSA, I would like to thank the Boards of
the NNF and the Nevada Nurses Association (NNA) for
supports us in hosting this event.
