"My paintings are about looking behind the
facade: super-realism for me is not about
maximum detail, but maximum feeling,” says
Philipp Weber

Philipp Weber is a German
artist who specializes in
hyper-realistic paintings
of women. Born in 1974
in Rostock, Germany, he
lives and works in Kassel and Berlin.
He was only three years old when
he became interested in art and has
only progressed since. The artist
takes inspiration from books, movies,
other fellow artists, and creative
people, as well as their life stories,
their dreams, and aspirations.
Using super-realistic painting
techniques, Philip presents
beautiful young women in a
variety of contexts. The physical
expressiveness of the painted - their
posture and facial expressions - is
expanded by motifs from art history
and popular culture, the symbolism
of Christianity, but also by elementary
carriers of meaning such as water as
a symbol of life par excellence. Thus,
Philipp’s paintings open up wide
spaces of thought and perception for
existential questions.
Philip has developed in terms
of content and technique an
impressive, very individual unique
signature style. One can’t tell his
paintings apart from a photograph
at first glance. However, even
though the artist’s works look like
they’re taken straight from a fashion
magazine, the portraits are actually
full of tiny details and imperfections
that make them much more realistic
and human.

creates landscapes of soul which are
of - in both senses of the word - multilayered
brilliance. Philipp creates
only 1-2 paintings per year as his
technique is very delicate and fine,
so every painting takes a lot of time
to create.

Children’s
Day
First established in 1954 as
Universal Children’s Day,
this global observance
which is now known as
World Children’s Day, is
celebrated on 20 November every
year to promote awareness among
the children and to improve child
welfare globally. 20th November
holds importance for children's
rights as it was on this day in 1959
when the UN General Assembly
adopted the Declaration of the
Rights of the Child. It is also on this
same date that the UN General
Assembly adopted the Convention
on the Rights of the Child.
What significance does it hold?
World Children’s Day provides a
platform to raise voices against the
maltreatment of children, all over
the world. Along with that, this day
can also be taken as an opportunity
to get inspired and work together
to build a better and safe world for
children.
How is it celebrated?
Educational institutions carry out
various efforts to inform children
about the importance of World
Children’s Day and make them
aware of their rights according to
the Declaration of the Rights of the
Child and Convention on the Rights
of the Child.
In many places, certain events are
held to attract attention towards the
benefits of children. These events
also prove to be beneficial for
attracting media attention towards
this global subject since media
has a broader reach among the
population and inspires most of the
population.
How can we participate?
To participate in this Global
observance day for children, one
must be aware of the rights that
children hold. Our children must
realize their value and recognize
what is best for them. So, it
becomes our duty to make them
aware of their importance and come
forward in reimagining a better world
for them.

The word “Animation”
comes from the Latin
word "animare" which
means to give life to
something. Animation
is a series of still pictures that
are shown in rapid succession
creating the illusion of movement.
If we see many images (24 a sec)
they will all link up.
Cartoons, feature-length films,
stop-motion are all vastly different
ways animation can be created,
produced, and presented,
yet an astounding amount of
people are still under the belief
that it is strictly for younger
audiences. Animation can be
achieved using methods such
as individually drawn frames,
computer-generated images,
cut-out animation, and many
more. Although the process is
meticulous and tiring, the result
is usually gratifying and worth the
hard work.
The first development of
animation dates back to the
late nineteenth century, where it
was created mainly using clay,
puppet, frame-by-frame drawings,
and cut-out techniques. Other
techniques and devices used to
create animated works around
the time were praxinoscope,
which is a device that utilized
mirrors to project a sequence of
images onto a fixed screen and
rotoscope: A technique in which
an animator traces and draws,
frame-by-frame, directly onto film.
Although animation had come
to fruition as a feasible way to
create art many years before, it
was not until Walt Disney released
“Steamboat Willie”, one of the
first animated pieces to have
audio, that it was perceived as a
plausible form of entertainment in
the western hemisphere.
There are different types of
animation but most of them
settle into five major categories
which are:
• Traditional Animation
• 2D Animation
• 3D Animation
• Motion Graphics
• Stop motion

Throughout art history,
people have been using
various materials to
express themselves.
Artists have always
chosen concepts and techniques
that fit their skills and artistic
expression. Sujith Puthran is an artist
based in India who specializes in a
variety of art forms such as graphite,
charcoal, pastel, colored pencils,
watercolor, acrylic, and oil.
Sujith is a sensitive and
introspective artist with a
penchant for the unusual and
thought-provoking image.
Within the apparent calm and
stillness of his repertoire lie
hidden complex psychological
elements of perfection, different
facial expressions, variety of
feelings. Such is the depth of his
understanding, both of sketching as
well as painting. Sujith carves out his
private artistic temperament within
his figurative art.
Sujith is a self-taught artist. With an
eagerness to learn art, he learned
the techniques of sketching and
basic drawing. Then, being amazed
by portraits made from charcoal
he realized that the portraits made
from rich dark shades looked better
than pencil portraits which led
him to learn to make portraits from
charcoal.
He developed his career by
practicing and learning more.
Through constant practice, he
explores the world of art and the
challenges he faces while creating
it. With every piece of art he creates,
his style changes and grows. Each
art piece that he creates has a
meaning of its own. Each piece
bears the imprimatur of its maker, yet
all art springs from the same shared

Bruno Monnier &
Gianfranco Iannuzzi
the creative minds behind the mesmerizing
exhibitions at Infinity Des Lumières
Bruno Monnier is the CEO of Culturespaces, a company that oversees the management of historical monuments,
museums, and art centers. Gianfranco Iannuzzi is the Digital Artist and Creative Director of Immersive Art
Exhibitions. In his 30 years career span, he has held numerous digital art exhibitions not just in France but around
the globe. The latest addition to their digital art center is Infinity Des Lumières at Dubai Mall. Here is an excerpt
from Magzoid’s conversation with Bruno and Gianfranco about their journey through immersive art.

Q1. You have prominently established
yourselves as successful designers
making your mark in the creative
industry. We would like to know about
your very first step in the art world?
Gianfranco: I was born in Venice;
Italy which is a town where art is
everywhere. As a kid, whenever I
looked at the reflection of the city in
the water, I saw the image change
every time. Back then, I felt it was
no less than magic. That was the
first nudge that pushed me into this
world; to do something new with
image and put it out in the world
for the people to see. Whenever
anyone asked me what I wanted
as a present, the answer would
be a camera. I used to take lots
of photos back then. However, I
wanted something more than to
just frame the photos, just like the
water in Venice. I wanted the world
to see something different. Maybe
immersive art as I know it started
from there.
Bruno: Art had a strong presence
in my family. I studied art and
management and after I joined the
French Ministry of Culture, I would
see how museums and historical
monuments were managed in the
modern world. When I started, I
created a space to bring new ways
to showcase historical monuments
in museums. It all started with a
cave where some people were
projecting images on the walls

too. The Municipality Le Baux
de Provence in France created
a competition and we ended up
winning it. Gianfranco helped us
create a completely new space.
It was my first step into this world
and in France, it led to Lumière. A
new concept of a digital art center,
something different from a classic
exhibition. We grew into this art
niche with the help of Gianfranco.

Q2. Please tell us about your educational
background and how it influences
your growth and actions now?
Gianfranco: My education is not
related to art, per se. However, I
was quite passionate about art.
In the end, although unrelated,
my education does play a role in
what I do because subjects like
geometry and sociology are vital
in understanding society as we
know it. In the digital art exhibition,
people are experiencing the
artwork individually but they are
all together in the same space.
This is where sociology comes in
as it focuses on people and how
they interact with each other. The
world is too much to experience
individually.
Bruno: When I was in the French
Ministry of Culture, I realized that
30% of the French population
are involved with art but 70% of
them do not know much about it.
This brings us to digital art and its
purpose. We aim to bring in a new
set of audience and introduce them
to art. I also created a foundation
whereby we could bring access to
arts and culture to underprivileged
and sick children.
Q3. What were your motivations to hop
into what you do today?
Gianfranco: We aim to create
something unique and share it with
the world, to bring people together
to experience immersive art and
actively participate in what they
see. Bruno and the company have
created an opportunity where we
can implement it. It is exciting for
me to create new spaces to present
to people.
Bruno: Exhibitions created by
Gianfranco make this a wonderful
experience. It is unlike anything
out there in the market. We spark
emotions within our visitors as they
get immersed in the artwork, the
artist, and the story.
We aim to create
something unique and
share it with the world, to
bring people together to
experience immersive art
and actively participate in
what they see.
Q4. Do you think Culturespaces has
inspired other museums and cultural
institutions to stage more digital
exhibits?
Bruno: I think it is perfectly
complementary. The purpose of
digital art centers is to bring art to
people albeit in a different way, a
way we have never seen art before.
It is for people who have not had
much interaction with art as well
as for those who have but can now
experience it digitally. I think people
who discover art here get to learn
about the art and the artists, for
example, Van Gogh. Museums will
always be classic but they are not
accessible to everyone. We bridge
that gap by providing access to
classic artworks halfway across the
world.
Q5. Do you think the future of
museums is digital?
Gianfranco: No, I personally don’t
think so. Digital museums are a
completely separate thing from
museums. It opens a new medium.
As Bruno said, we can project Van
Gogh’s artwork through technology
but museums are still a classic.
Bruno: Let’s put it this way; digital

we have never seen art
before.
art is a museum for everybody and
museums are for people to see the
original artwork.
Q6. How has digital art evolved since
you first started?
Bruno: I would say the
development process has
changed. With the availability of
up-to-date technology, there have
been new animations. We have
decided to create quality spaces
with a french touch- this has been
our strategy and we believe it
applies in the coming years as well.
To be more concise, our evolution
comes with technological evolution.
Q7 What do you look for when you are
in the planning stage of creating the
immersive artistic installation?
Gianfranco: The first thing I focus
on is the space. For me, it is about
taking an empty space and seeing
how it is molded into something
else, what kind of things can be
done with the space. Moreover,
how do people make sense of my
work and what can they learn
from it.
Q8. What are your current projects for
the Infinity Des Lumières in particular?
For the upcoming year, we are
taking inspiration from France to
bring it to Dubai, keeping in mind
the difference in audience. Nothing
has been set in stone so far, which
makes it quite interesting.
Q9. What message do you have for our
readers?
It is important to dream. Keep
dreaming and try to make it a
reality. Experience immersive
art for yourself with Infinity Des
Lumières.

Bronze statue of anonymous
Bitcoin founder uncovered in Hungary
A
bronze statue was
unveiled in Hungary’s
capital which its
creators say is the first
in the world to pay
homage to the anonymous creator
of the Bitcoin digital currency.
The sculpture sits on a stone
plinth in a business park near the
Danube River in Budapest and
has the name Satoshi Nakamoto,
the pseudonym of the mysterious
developer of Bitcoin whose true
identity is unknown, engraved on it.

Internationally known artist, Nick
Sider, is a self-taught acrylic
painter based out of New York
City. Since the age of 5, Sider
knew he wanted to be a painter.
He grew up with a love and passion
for art but decided to pursue other
interests after leaving high school.
At the age of 25, Sider decided
to quit his job and began to pursue
his childhood dream of becoming
an artist. He relocated to New York
City and had his first NYC solo
show. With the help of several viral
videos on social media, Sider has
gained international recognition for
his hyperrealistic paintings and has

While experimenting with a
multitude of subject matter, Sider has
always maintained a hyperrealistic
style, attempting to create paintings

photograph could ever capture. The

provide. Some of them are so
realistic that they appear to leap

The Mysterious
Smile
of the Mona Lisa
Mona Lisa, also known
as La Gioconda, is the
wife of Francesco del
Giocondo. This figure
of a woman, dressed in
the Florentine fashion of her day and
seated in a visionary, mountainous
landscape, is a remarkable instance
of Leonardo da Vinci’s sfumato
technique of soft, heavily shaded
modeling. The original painting is
owned by the Government of France
and is on the wall in the Louvre in
Paris, France.
For Mona Lisa, Leonardo used a
thin-grained piece of popular tree
and applied an undercoat of lead
white. Leonardo painted with glazes
that had a very small amount of
pigment mixed with the oil. He used
tiny or almost invisible brushstrokes,
applied slowly over months, or in
Mona Lisa’s case, years. By contrast
on her skin, brush strokes were
applied irregularly which makes the
grain of the skin look more life-like.
The magic of the Mona Lisa’s
smile is that it seems to react to our
gaze. She smiles back mysteriously
and when we glance away, the
enigmatic smile lingers in our minds.
In no other painting are motion and
emotion, the paired touchstones of
Leonardo’s art, so intertwined.
Leonardo uses the traditional
pyramid-shaped composition
that provides stability but most
importantly a clear center of focus
that directs your gaze. In Mona
Lisa’s case, it is dragging us into
her face. Today if we see a Mona
Lisa photo it seems normal but back
then it was innovative. Previously,
subjects were strong and upright
aristocrats, but Mona Lisa was
relaxed, her hands resting gently
on the arm of her chair as she
turns towards us almost as if it’s
a snapshot. The painting seems
like we are directly looking into her
eyes and she is looking directly at
us. Women in paintings just didn’t
do that. They didn’t look boldly

When Leonardo was perfecting
Mona Lisa’s smile he became
fascinated by how a smile works
and analyzed every possible
movement of each part of the face.
Working out the origins of every
nerve that controls every facial
muscle, the fine lines at the end turn
down slowly, leading us to believe
the lips are smiling. This simple
anatomical drawing is the beginning
of the Mona Lisa’s smile. Leonardo
knows from the optic studies that
light rays do not come to a single
point in the eye but instead, hit the
world area of the retina and this is
the key to her enigmatic smile.
The delicately painted veil, the
finely wrought tresses, and the
careful rendering of folded fabric
demonstrate Leonardo’s studied
observations and inexhaustible
patience. The sense of overall
harmony achieved in the painting—
especially apparent in the sitter’s
faint smile—reflects Leonardo’s
idea of the cosmic link connecting
humanity and nature, making this

Boat Show, 2021
The third edition of the Abu
Dhabi International Boat Show
(ADIBS) saw the participation
of 353 exhibitors and brands,
reflecting a 24% increase
compared to the previous edition held in
2019. The event was held from 13 to 16
October, 2021 at the Abu Dhabi National
Exhibitions Centre.
Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh
Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman
of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed
Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable &
Humanitarian Foundation and Chairman
of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ADIBS

We at Magzoid Magazine exhibited
two amazing artworks by Dasha
Lapushka, one named ‘My Lockdown’
and the other which focused on the
pollution in the bottom of the oceans.
The show provided an opportunity for
visitors to meet some of the top experts
and companies responsible for building
the biggest houseboats in Abu Dhabi,
as well as introducing them to local and
regional fishing equipment companies
so that they can purchase their latest

upgrading their boats were able to get
in touch with a wide range of exhibitors

Amsterdam’s Van Gogh
Museum showcases the artist’s newly
discovered painting
A
drawing that has been
recently attributed
to Vincent van
Gogh has gone on
display publicly for
the first time ever. The van Gogh
Museum in Amsterdam will put the
work—a rarity, given that new van
Gogh pieces infrequently come to
light—on view this week.
The work, titled Study for Worn
Out, is dated November 1882. It
depicts an elderly male worker
sitting on a wooden chair, hunched
over with his face in his hands.
Van Gogh made it as a preliminary
sketch for his 1882 drawing of the
same title during the early part of
his career when he was working in
The Hague.
“It’s quite rare
for a new work to
be attributed to
Van Gogh,” the
museum’s director
Emilie Gordenker
said in a statement.

Alicja Kwade to unveil a
permanent sculpture in New York next year
A
permanent sculpture
titled Solid Sky by the
German-Polish artist
Alicja Kwade will be
unveiled in New York
early next year.
The commissioned work,
which has been produced for an
undisclosed amount, is part of
the revitalization project of the
Philip Johnson and John Burgeedesigned
corporate tower 550
Madison in Manhattan, whose
previous tenants included AT&T
and Sony Music. The 37-storey
Midtown skyscraper was
completed in 1984 and has been
under renovation since 2016, after
it was purchased by the Saudi
investment firm Olayan Group. In
2018, it became designated a city
landmark.
The work comprises of 22,000
kilograms polished spherical stone
suspended from the ceiling of
the glassbox lobby with stainless
steel chains. It is made from a rare
quartzite called Azul do Macaúbas
that was quarried in northeastern
Brazil (and only exists otherwise
in few parts of Africa) and
contains various intensities of blue
delineated by white veins.
The work follows the Polish-
German artist’s acclaimed
sculptural project ParaPivot (2019)
at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art, which engulfed the museum’s
rooftop with a constellation of stone
spheres installed on intersecting
steel grids. The constellation,
Kwade said, evoked the solar
system.

Pierre Abboud, born in
1973, is an artist and
interior designer by
profession whose work
spans two decades in art
and design. In the early years, his
work was focused on mural paint
for which he became well-known
in the region, before moving to
Dubai in 2005. He established his
own company, Trompe l’oeil, which
specialized in events, exhibitions,
and interior design.
Pierre has become successful
as a street artist with the many
trash art sculptures that he has
recently built in Lebanon. His
fulfillment always stemmed from his
passion for art, and the diversity
he works with, be it the vast range
of media he uses, the diverse art
styles he creates, or the wide array
of projects he handles, ranging
from sculptures and paintings to
installations and interior design.
Pierre has to his credit the iconic
“The Dome” that he created for Abu
Dhabi municipality and the stunning
and enigmatic “Falcon’s Nest” that
stood proud in Downtown Dubai.
In 2016, he was chosen to bring

The Ancient Art of
Paper Folding
Origami
Paper was first invented
and manufactured in
China around 105 A.D. in
the Han Dynasty. It was
then brought to Japan
by monks, who intended to use it
to document religious texts or for
ceremonial purposes. As paper
became more accessible to the
general public, people began to
fold it for leisure, particularly during
celebrations and festivals. One of
the most recognizable examples of
this is the paper crane – a symbol
of best wishes in Japan and the art
of paper folding is called Origami.
Origami derives its name from
the Japanese words ori (“folding”)
and kami (“paper”). Traditional
origami consists of folding a
single sheet of square paper into
a sculpture without cutting, gluing,
taping, or even marking it.
Origami is the art that can create
both two- dimensional and threedimensional
subjects. Most origami
is doubled from a square paper of a
single sheet. Rectangles and other
nonsquare sheets may also be used

Traditional stationary origami

in Portugal who specializes
in abstract art. His painting
started with watercolor,
which proved to be magical
and creative, but as time went by
his painting took another dimension
and turned to abstract art. He has
developed his artistic career through

artwork with many collectors, as well
as social networks and virtual sales.
Luc Mora is never limited to the
dimensions of his canvas as he
disrupts volumes and symmetries
until contours no longer exist. His
painting goes beyond the canvas.
Luc is always curious about all
creations and trends. “As soon as an
artistic creation catches my eye, I try
to discover its secrets, its mysteries,
and its existence,” he says.
Through the artworks, he aims to
welcome his audience into a world
filled with intense color and beautiful

During the pandemic, Luc

your own eyes. The answers
are in the heart of my colors
and my paintings.” The
concept of art is hard to
define; not because it is
vague or abstract, but
because it has had many
different reasons for being
created. It takes us on a

present, and the future.

to live today and nothing about what
will happen in the future. We are sad
about what all have happened in the
past but do not bother about what will
be the consequences in the future. We
all wish the best for our families but
are not doing anything much about
their future in this world. But, Dasha
decided to be someone who will not
turn a blind eye to this issue. The
pandemic has shown us what it feels
like to not be able to breathe properly.
It showed us that nature requires
kindness and it is time for us to pay
back mother nature.

professionally and so Isabel
believes she still has a long way to
go while developing her career. So
far, whatever she has developed
and achieved is through sheer
perseverance and passion. Through
practice and perseverance, Isabel
has made beautiful artworks and
formed a community of her own. She
is proud of the small community she
has formed and has even begun
publishing and selling her artworks

In an ode to childhood, fun and
entertainment, the Disney logo
reminds us of the magic envisioned
by founder Walt Disney. The
iconic Disney logo has a castle,
which represents magic for kids
and adults alike. The elaborate
animated logo is said to showcase
a detailed image of Cinderella’s
castle, which is known to all,
representing magic. By having
their logo and the entrance to
their theme parks look incredibly
similar, the Disney logo is also able
to serve as an advertisement for
Disneyland and Disneyworld. Since
every Disney movie starts with an
animation of the logo, people who
enter into one of the Disney theme
parks feel like they are stepping
into a real-life Disney movie.
Lacoste is one of the
iconic casual and sports brands,
which started from the production
of tennis apparel, as its founder,
Rene Lacoste, was one of the
brightest stars in the world of tennis
in the 1920s, who was nicknamed
"the Crocodile." One says it is
a reference to his playing style,
while the more popular theory
is that it stems from a bet the
player made over the outcome
of a match, wherein the winner
would get a suitcase made of
