community and he encouraged<br />

Burnett and most of East.<br />
‘‘Weare planting the green<br />
belt alongEast Street at the<br />
moment and constructing a<br />
concrete padthatwillfirst<br />
accommodate thegiant<br />
Christmastree,’’ he said.<br />
The fountain on EastStreet<br />
is alsobeing worked on with<br />
contractorsrefibreglassing<br />
thelower fountain pondsto<br />
tidy it up/refurbish and to<br />
preventleakage.<br />

the StaveleyIceRink refrigeration project.<br />
The ambitiousproject aims to raise $1.14<br />
million to futureproofuse at the rink<br />
througharefrigerated base.<br />
To date $433,868 has been pledgedor<br />
donated.<br />
Supporters canback the project by<br />
buyingathreeyear familyseason pass<br />
($2000), aloadof concretefor the rink base<br />
($1300)orbybecominggold,silver and<br />
bronze sponsors.<br />
There is also aGivealittle page for other<br />
donations.<br />
Project team member Clare Harden said<br />
53 of the 70 loads of concrete neededfor the<br />
basehavenow been pledged.<br />

Engineering have all donated or pledgedto<br />
give the project an amazing boost.<br />
The community have donated or pledged<br />
over $150,000,she said.<br />
‘‘We have just appliedtothe Community<br />
Trust of Mid&South Canterbury for<br />
$150,000, so are hoping we get funding<br />
there.’’<br />
Mrs Harden said abusiness plan was<br />
being drawn up to support an application to<br />
Lottofor grant further support.<br />
The application would be ready in<br />
Decemberandsubmitted in February.<br />
The planned opening of theproject has<br />
now been pushed outtoJune2023.<br />
