Rolleston St John youth cadet William
Thompson (above, centre) received the
grand prior award, the ultimate award
for St John cadets, at a ceremony
on November 14 at Lemonwood
Grove School. To gain the award,
cadets need to earn 12 badges in a
range of disciplines, including first
aid, community awareness and
communication, as well as undertake
100 hours of community service.
The 16-year-old also received his
St John sergeant stripes, and a St
John community service award for
helping with Meals on Wheels during
lockdown. He is pictured at the
ceremony with divisional manager
youth manager Kimberly Vernall.
Trophies presented included several
super penguin awards in which St
John Penguins, who are aged six to
eight, gain nine badges. The ceremony
was attended by knight of the order
of St John Michael McEvedy, pictured
A Selwyn Times reader expresses opinion on the Lincoln Maternity Hospital
THE LINCOLN Maternity
Hospital should somehow be
retained for various reasons,
importantly as a symbol of
respect for the huge part it has
played in the community.
Lincoln has lost it village
feeling, retaining the hospital is
important as the building should
have heritage status. It also plays
an important part in keeping
Lincoln a proud village in which
to live.
It’s not about how many homes
you could fit on the site.
What are the options to
retaining the building as a
very important part of our
community? – Colin Giddens,
