As the summer holiday season
nears, Waka Kotahi New Zealand
Transport Agency is calling on
drivers to be courteous and allow
plenty of travel time.
Acting director of regional
relationships,Ross L’Anson, says
motorists shouldprepare for roads
to be much busier than normal.
‘‘Congestion and delays are
inevitable in peak times, but if
everyone allows plenty of time for
the journey, drives to the
conditions and plans ahead there
will be less frustration and
everyone will be able to
concentrate on arriving safely at
theirdestination.’’
He recommends using the
agency’s digitalHolidayJourneys
map, which shows predictedtraffic
flowsduring the peak summer
holiday period.
Journey Plannerprovides
detailed descriptions of the routes
available, including the fastest
route, where the electric charging
locationsare situated and realtime
information on delays,
roadworks and road closures.
Drivers should checkthat their
vehicle is in working order before
setting out on theirroad trip.
‘‘Checkyour tyre pressureand
The past year hasn’tbeen easywith the
Christmas can be atime of joy, it can also
come with competing pressures and
expectations.
That is why it is so important to tune
into the ‘goodstuff’the simplethings
that matterthe most and helpusfeel
good.
Take time to notice and be gratefulfor
the good stuff every day.
Try to savourit, and play it back in
your mindafterwards.
It will increaseyour chances of getting
through hardtimesand can makeyou
happier in the good times.
More thanChristmas gifts,the good
stuffismade up of simple things and
experiences thatwereallyvalue and
remember, such as agame of backyard
cricket,anicecream at the beach,
spending time in nature or abarbecue
with friends.
This simple practice of noticingwhat
makesyou feelgood and doing more of it
is proven to support your wellbeing.
