Some things that you should have known but weren’t told about reclaim<br />

In this article, I am going to discuss a basic truth<br />
that many car wash owners need to know, but are<br />
not often told. I, like other authors of water reclaim<br />
articles, have also read many times about new approaches,<br />
new technology, and “innovations” for<br />
reclaim systems, “basic facts” about biological or<br />
ozone systems, etc. Such articles are mostly informative<br />
to a degree, and accurate in what they say,<br />
but leave pertinent basic facts unsaid. Herein I try<br />
to state some of the often unsaid basic facts that<br />
should be understood by anyone considering a reclaim<br />
system, no matter the type. Let’s consider it<br />
“reclaim 101.” A good understanding of the very<br />
basics of reclaim systems will put you in a far better<br />
position for discussions with your sales rep enroute<br />
to specifying one.<br />
It’s dirt, and it has to go<br />
somewhere!<br />
First, the water from washing cars is really, really<br />
dirty, possibly containing dirt, sand, salt, organic<br />
material (e.g. bird droppings, etc.) and car applications<br />
(oil, wax, surfactants, detergents, soaps, etc.),<br />
and any manner of other dissolved or suspended<br />
solids. These materials must be altered and/or removed<br />
to an acceptable degree from the wash ef-<br />
