SHAQ’S COSTLY SELF SERVE CAR WASH MISTAKE Basketball legend and multi-business owner Shaquille O’Neal knows a thing or two about making bank. But making it to the bank is a whole other story. As the owner of 150 car washes across the country, O’Neal admits to not being very business savvy when he first started out in the industry. Graham Bensinger on his show, Shaquille O’Neal revealed this bizarre story about his car wash. He told Graham Bensinger on his show, In Depth, that he was being an irresponsible business owner. “I would get the coins and the quarters and I’d just take them home and put them in my safe. But so much money was coming in, I didn’t think we could take quarters and dimes to the bank like that. I didn’t want them to think I was, you know, breaking into vending machines. So I would just take them and dump them in plastic bags and pillowcases and put them in the house.” His fear of cashing in the coins eventually caught up with him, to the tune of $250,000 in misappropriated funds. His financial advisor called him and asked if he could account for the missing ¼ of a million dollars. “What?” O’Neal replied.
