royalty, with Lipa influencing fashion
searches unlike anyone else,” La
Caer continues, “from Y2K inspired
looks to crochet, rodeo glam, and
Versace, all the brands and pieces
she wore over the past few months
saw immediate spikes in searches
after her appearances.”
The year 2021 was also the rise
for fashion power couples as more
celebrity couples attended events
together and made conscious
efforts to stun the red carpet with
their fashion statements. The Biebers,
Rihanna, and A$AP Rocky, etc.,
all made headlines at the various
events they appeared.
In 2021, there were a lot of
memorable fashion moments, like
when Amanda Gorman took to
the inauguration stage clad in that
iconic red Prada headband. Billie
Eilish broke the internet with a Vogue
cover. Lil Nas X pushed the limits of
what we expect a male country star
to wear, creating space for fluidity in
gender. Then, of course, some looks
were simply aesthetically brilliant—
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, anyone?

Simone Biles at the Met Gala 2021
Simone Biles brought her star quality
to the Met Gala 2021 – but this
time, not on the courts, but on the
red carpet. The gymnast’s dress
looked like it was made of feathers,
but the showgirl-inspired satin gown
was actually made from feathermimicking
crystal embroidery.
Speaking to Vogue about her Met
Gala 2021 dress, Biles said; “How do
I feel in the dress? It’s definitely heavy,
but I feel beautiful, strong, and
empowered.”
The dress was designed by Beckett
Fogg and Piotrek Panszczyk of Area.
According to the designers, the
three-in-one outfit consisted of a
hand-embellished skirt covered in
Swarovski crystals weighing more
than six stone (around 40kg). There
was also a mini dress underneath;
and a black cat suit decorated to
look like a starry night’s sky.
