METROLAND Spring 2022

Based at the White Hill Centre in Chesham, Voices
and Choices is a voluntary organisation working
in Buckinghamshire. Their aim is to develop the
capacity and skills of adults who, irrespective of
their circumstances, require assistance to improve
their quality of life and their choices over where
they live and the services they receive.
The key focus of their work is to support people to
remain in their own homes while receiving the help
and services they require to do so. The service is
delivered by managing a group of volunteers who
provide a service directly to people in their own
homes.
Thinking about Volunteering? One Volunteer’s
Story
Liz, one of our team of volunteers who help local
people with a range of issues at home, agreed to
answer a few questions..
Quickfire Questions…
What would you say to someone considering
volunteering with Voices and Choices?
I would say that it is a worthwhile experience, if you
have spare time, give it a go, you will find that you
will get as much out of it as the clients do.
In what ways do you think our clients/people
have benefitted from your time and experience?
I think our clients would feel that there is someone
who will listen to them without judging and have
the time to help with small things. For example
putting up and taking down Christmas trees or
replacing batteries when someone doesn’t have
the dexterity to do it themselves. It’s the small
things that are appreciated. Taking an interest in
what they do really matters to them.
