Mark calendars for
Heritage events
The South Charleston Heritage Commission
is gearing up for several events this
year.
• Tour of Churches. Sue Mattinson, Heritage
Commission trustee, will lead a free
walking tour of churches at 2 p.m. May 1.
The tour starts at St. Charles Borromeo
Catholic Church, 31 S. Chillicothe St., then
moves on to South Charleston United
Methodist Church at the corner of Church
and Jamestown streets, and ends at First
Presbyterian Church, 15 N. Chillicothe St.
At each stop, Mattinson will provide a
brief introduction, a church representative
will share some history, and tour participants
will have time to walk around the
sanctuary. Refreshments will be served at
First Presbyterian Church which is celebrating
its 200th anniversary this year.
• Women of South Charleston. Sue Mattinson
had originally prepared this talk for
2020, the 100th year since women received
the right to vote. The pandemic derailed
those plans. The talk is back on for this year
and tentatively set for 2 p.m. July 10 at the
Opera House located on the second floor of
South Charleston’s town hall. The new stair
lift is operational, making the program accessible
to everyone. The program is free.
Donations will be accepted but are not required.
Proceeds go toward the maintenance
of the historic opera house, train depot and
log house.
• Heritage Days Festival. This year’s festival
will be one day, instead of two, and is
set for Sept. 24.

offers Easter fun
Houston Library, 5 W. Jamestown St.,
South Charleston, offers the following activities.

• Storytimes. Every Thursday through
May 19 at 11 a.m. for 2- to 4-year-olds.
• Lego Club. Second Monday of each
month, April 11 and May 9, for school-aged
children only, 3:30-4:30 p.m. Show off your
creativity. All supplies are provided. Creations
will be left on display at the library
until the following month.
• Easter Fun Family Night. April 12 at 6
p.m. For families with children of all ages.
Hop on down to the library for Easterthemed
activities, like Peeps Catapult and
Funny Bunny Faces. Make a Bunny Corner
bookmark to take home.
