National tournament<br />
BASKETBALL<br />
The rapidlygrowing <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong><br />
Basketball Association is gearing up to<br />
host its firstever national tournament<br />
next month at Rangiora’s topclass new<br />
stadium.<br />
The Aon Under 19 Nationals will<br />
bring together New Zealand's top junior<br />
basketball talent to represent their<br />
region and play for the men's and<br />
women's championship titles. <strong>North</strong><br />
<strong>Canterbury</strong> Basketball Association<br />
(women's) is excited to be hosting 22<br />
teams from acrossthe countryduring<br />
the tournament at MainPower Stadium<br />
over QueensBirthday Weekend,June 4<br />
to 7, in acollaboration with Active<br />
Refrigeration and Visit Waimakariri.<br />
The $28 million MainPower Stadium<br />
opened in August and last month helda<br />
successful South Island Primary<br />
Tournament which had basketball<br />
teams invited from across the Mainland.<br />

four fullsized courts with courtside<br />
seating gets spectators up close and<br />
personal with the play.<br />
Members of the public are welcometo<br />
come along to the U19 Nationals and<br />
watch the best teenage basketballtalent<br />
in the country battle it out.<br />
‘‘Expect high energy,lots of hops and<br />
some attitude on the court it's going to be<br />
crazy good,’’ Cunninghame said.<br />
The programme will be released later<br />
this month once all team rosters and the<br />
draw have been completed.Entry is free<br />
to MainPower Stadium on Coldstream<br />
Road, Rangiora, and the onsite cafe will<br />
be open.<br />

Cunninghame said. Basketball in <strong>North</strong><br />
<strong>Canterbury</strong> has boomed in recent years.<br />
Last month NCBA had arecord five<br />
teams qualify for Basketball New<br />
Zealand national championships —<br />
under 15 boys and girls, under 17 boys<br />
and girls, and under 19 women.<br />
