Vendors are gearing up for another season or are already in full swing around Madison County. West Jefferson Farmers Market The West Jefferson Farmers Market will operate on Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., in the parking lot at Pat’s Pizza & Pub, 55 E. Main St., West Jefferson. Opening day is June 11. “The market went really, really good last year. All of our vendors did really well,” said Terry Lambert, who organizes the market with Nola Lambert and Sherry Hook. Lambert expects another good selling season this year. So far, eight vendors are signed up to sell products ranging from fruits and vegetables to baked goods, clothing, and handmade soap. A few more vendors are likely to join the fun as the season gets started. “We’re planning on having food trucks this year, too,” Lambert said. And senior vouchers are back. The program, organized through Lifecare Alliance, provides senior citizens with vouchers to purchase goods at the farmers market. More information about the program will be announced as the season gets under way. Vendor spaces measure 10x10 feet. To reserve a space, call Lambert at (740) 837-0131 or stop by during market hours. Madison County Farmers Market The Madison County Producers Association kicks off their 2022 farmers market on June 11 at their usual location in front of Tractor Supply Center at 300 Lafayette St. in London. Organizer Seth Osborne expects approximately 20 vendors to take part in the market this year. Some set up throughout the season, and some set up for part of the season. Offerings include fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and crafts. All vendors are Madison County residents who grow their produce and make their goods in the county. “We’re all about supporting local,” Osborne said. For a vendor application and more information, call Seth Osborne at (614) 989-9091 or inquire at one of the Saturday markets. Vendor spaces are $10 per session or $30 for the season. The market season runs through October. Plain City’s Uptown Farmers Market Once again, customers can expect to find an exciting variety of goods at the farmers market in uptown Plain City. “We had around 25 vendors last year, and we hope for the same this year,” said Haley Lupton, Plain City’s new village administrator. The options will run from produce, local meats, baked goods and ice cream to freshcut flowers, cutting boards, dog treats, and body and home products. The market’s grand opening is set for July 4. 9 a.m.-noon, to coincide with the village’s Independence Day festivities. From then on, the market will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays through Oct. 6. Food trucks will set up at the market periodically through the season. Those on the list to participate are Tortilla Street Food, Taco Mania, J.D.’s Farmhouse Cafe, Any Style Hotdogs, and Guelaguetza Street Food. “We also hope to do some programming at the market. Last year, we did a cooking demonstration,” Lupton said. Vendor spaces are $5 per week or $30 for the season. Applications can be found at www.plain-city.com. Main St., London, has become a yearround indoor farmers market. This year, for the first time, the store stayed open in January, February and March, holding hours on Saturdays. “We’re getting more food that is shelf stable. We’re adding more dairy products, like milks and yogurt. And chickens produce eggs all year. We have a lot of regulars who come in for those items, so we decided to stay open,” said Danielle Vogel, store manager and the Procter Conference Center’s farm business development manager. Starting in April, the store returned to its spring and summer hours: Thursday and Friday, 12-5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Hours are extended to 8 p.m. the second Friday of the month for London’s Shop Hop nights. Note: The store’s hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day during the London Strawberry Festival, June 23-25. The store features goods from the Procter farm and several other farmers, growers and artisans, most of whom hail from the London and Mount Sterling area. Customers can find fresh vegetables which, at this time of year, include the likes of lettuce, greens, radishes, asparagus and kale, and later in the season include the likes of corn, beans, tomatoes and eggplant. The store also offers herbs, milk, chicken, pork, beef, lamb, bratwurst, honey, maple syrup, honey, dressings, dips, pickles, jam, salsa, baked goods, coffee, tea, jewelry, home decor, charcuterie boards, wreaths, bath bombs, and more. Archaelogical Society display The Darby Creek chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio will display Native American artifacts and early pioneer metal detected artifacts from 12 to 2 p.m. June 12 at the Madison County Historical Society, 260 E. High St., London. The Madison County Historical Society Museum will be open the same day from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to look over the artifacts, ask questions, and participate in general discussions about the artifacts, as well as visit the historic treasures housed at the museum.

The Carol Bichler and Don Schiff awards are given to one outstanding eighth-grade male athlete and one outstanding female athlete. These students have above average athletic ability, participate in multiple sports, show leadership on and off the playing field or court, and exhibit a good attitude. This year’s award recipients are Payton Kincade and Austin Buescher. Nancy Gantner received the Rae LeCompte Sprit Award for demonstrating outstanding school spirit. The Virginia Mohr Math Award was presented to Kylie Dunn. The Math Achievement Award was presented to William Workman. The Ceora Bester Spelling Award was presented to Patrick Murphy. The Language Arts Award was presented to: Hayden Lamoreaux. The Gary Jainshig Science Award was presented to Briann Dehmann. The Citizenship Award was presented to Nancy Gantner. The Principal’s Award is given to an eighth-grade student who has demonstrated the most improvement as an all-around student during their middle school years, including social, emotional and academic development. This year’s recipient is Briann Dehmann. This year’s nominations for the Leon Garrett award are Jackson Beatty, Julia Beatty, Austin Buescher, Angel Butcher, Kylie Dunn, Nancy Gantner, Hayden Lamoreaux, Hailey McBrayer, Blake Toland and Shalynn Whittaker. The recipient has demonstrated an above average grade point average, outstanding leadership, and involvement in community activities.
