Art Exhibit The London Visual Arts Guild is hosting “Barns, Bees & Elephant Knees,” an art exhibit featuring the work of artists Hilary Frambes, Sondra Fox and Debbie Walker, through June 26 at the London Arts Center, 121 E. First St., London. The center’s hours are Thursdays and Sundays, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Health District Board The Madison County London City Health District Board will meet at 5 p.m. June 13 at Madison County Public Health, 306 Lafayette St., London. Hypertufa Pot Making The Madison County Master Gardeners are hosting a hypertufa pot making session from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 11 at the Madison County Extension Office, 217 Elm St., London. Participants will make an 8-inch hypertufa pot, learn the recipe, see techniques using molds and leaves, and get ideas for planting. The cost is $20 (does not include plants). Broad St., West Jefferson, is holding fish fries on the first and third Fridays of the month through October. The menu includes fish, fries, baked beans, coleslaw, drinks and desserts. Eat-in or carryout available. Hours are 4-7 p.m. Mount Sterling Alumni The Mount Sterling Alumni Association is hosting its annual alumni banquet on June 11 at the Mount Sterling Community Center, 164 E. Main St., Mount Sterling. Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased by May 31. Checkin and social hour run from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by dinner catered by Ben & Joy’s Restaurant. This year, the association is welcoming alumni from any of the schools that are or have been associated with the Madison-Plains school district in honor of the 50th anniversary of the first graduating class of Madison-Plains. Main St., South Solon, is hosting a community pancake breakfast June 18, 7:30 a.m.-noon. Donations of $7 per adult and $3 per child are being asked. The meal includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, and milk, fruit punch of coffee. Pop can be purchased for 50 cents. All proceeds benefit the fire department. They are set for: 8 p.m. June 14, 8:30 p.m. July 13, 8 p.m. Aug. 11, 7:30 p.m. Sept. 10, and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9. Participants meet at Phat Daddy’s Pizza, 15 E. First St., London, and choose from two routes: a 14-miles round trip to the Wilson Road trailhead and back or a 25-mile round trip to Battelle Darby Metro Park, 8465 Alkire Rd., and back. It is recommended that riders wear helmets, lights, and light-colored clothing. Registration is not required. Participants can talk privately to an attorney about family law issues related to adoption and kinship care. Services are based on a first-come first-serve basis. WEBBER Mary Lou Webber, 90, a lifelong resident of Mount Sterling, Ohio, passed away on May 21, 2022. Mary Lou was born on July 17, 1931, to Loutie LeMay and Bruce Clinton Junk. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert “Bob” Webber; son, David; sisters, Ruth and Ann; and brothers, Fred and Ned. She is survived by: her sister, Jane; daughter, Catherine and her husband, Wayne; daughter-in-law, Cindy; grandchildren, Annie, Matthew, Katie, Boyd, and Webber; and great-grandchildren, Keener, Grace, Mack, Louisa, and Vivian. Mary Lou attended Ohio University and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was an involved member of her community, which included working as a substitute teacher at Plains School, volunteering at London Hospital, serving as a board member of the Madison County Board of Developmental Disabilities, and participating as a member of The United Church. Mary Lou was an independent country girl who loved living on her farm, playing bridge, spending time with her neighbors, Tim & Mary and Judy & David, and daily calls with her close friend, Betty. She was a big fan of Buckeye football and basketball and enjoyed watching games with her family and friends. Mary Lou maintained an active lifestyle into her 90s, visiting relatives across the country, playing golf at London Country Club (always at a fast pace), spending winters in Sarasota, and knitting Christmas stockings for her great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life was her 60 years of marriage to Bob, raising David and Catherine, and watching their families grow. Mary Lou was loved by many and will be missed. Visitation was held on June 3 at Porter- Tidd Funeral Home, Mount Sterling. A graveside service was held at Pleasant Cemetery on June 4. SCALISE Krystal Scalise, 39, of Orient died on May 22, 2022, in Mount Carmel Grove City. Born on May 3, 1983, in Columbus, she was a daughter of Brenda (Ray) Peoples and Harold Walker. She is survived by: husband, Jeff Scalise; daughter, Kassidy Powers; stepdaughter, Dakota Scalise, and stepson, Austin Scalise; mother, Brenda Peoples; brothers, Aaron and Adam Peoples; sister, Adrianna Peoples; several nieces and nephews; father, Harold Walker; and half-sister, Brittany Walker. Krystal was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Jack and Phyllis Joann Ray, and maternal grandmother, Mary Ellen Ray. A celebration of life was held on May 28 at Big Darby Ravines in Orient. The family suggests memorials in Krystal’s name be sent to the Humane Society of Madison County, 2020 State Rte. 142 NE, West Jefferson, OH 43162. LINDSEY Karen Lee Lindsey, 69, of London died on May 24, 2022, in the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Born on April 11, 1953, in Springfield, she was a daughter of Robert Clark and Alma Juanita (Knisley) Dorn. She was always a hardworking woman, regardless of the task at hand. Throughout her lifetime, she had worked as a teacher’s aide, in cleaning, and for Travelers Insurance. Karen enjoyed coaching, cooking, bowling, and, above all, she loved her family. Karen is survived by: her son, Kevin Lindsey; daughter, Kristy (Kevin) Riley; grandchildren, Zane and Bria Riley; siblings, Sandy (Lynn) Stoughton, Cindy (Chris) Mace, Bobby Dorn, Nita (Dana) Hughes and Rhonda Waddle; uncle, Jack (Ann) Knisley; many nieces, nephews, greatnieces, great-nephews, cousins, and lots of friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Bob and Juanita Dorn; husband, Kenny Lindsey; in-laws, Beck and Mildred Lindsey; and nephew, Jeff Stoughton. Visitation and a funeral service was held on May 31 at First United Methodist Church, London, with Pastor Sue McClelland officiating. Interment followed in Paint Memorial Cemetery. Condolences may be shared at www.eberlefisherfuneralhome.com. ALLEN Marilyn J. Allen, 94, of West Jefferson, Ohio, passed away on May 28, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born on Jan. 27, 1928, in Columbus, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Fred and Reha (Callaghan) Studeman. She retired from Jefferson Local Schools where she was a bus driver for 17 years and was a member of Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church in West Jefferson, Ohio. She was preceded in death by: her loving husband of 61 years, Arnold Allen, whom she married on Aug. 27, 1948; daughter, Christine Roncoroni; and her parents, Fred and Reha Studeman. Marilyn is survived by: her children, Charlotte Haskins of Swanton, Ohio, and Patrick Allen of Delaware, Ohio; grandchildren, Eric Oakes, Amanda Oakes, Paul Smith, Reha Roncoroni, Tonya Coburn, Patrick Green, and Tasha Iams; and greatgrandchildren, Gunnar Oakes, Grace Oakes, Reagan Coburn, and Trent Iams. The family will welcome friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 4 at Rader-McDonald- Tidd Funeral Home, West Jefferson. Mass will be held at 2 p.m. June 4 at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 9350 High Free Pike, West Jefferson, with Rev. Father Robert Kitsmiller as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, West Jefferson. He was born to the late Buford Townsend and Loretta Johnson Townsend in London, OH. He loved to cook and retired from Denny’s in Zanesville OH. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Hunter Townsend of the home, a step-son Daniel Reed of McConnelsville, OH, 5 brothers, William (Pam) Townsend of London, OH, Danny Townsend of McConnelsville, Glenn (Brenda) Townsend of Plain City, OH, Roger Townsend of Sedalia, OH, and Joshua Townsend of Noble County, OH, 5 sisters, Joanne Stuthard of McConnelsville, OH, Wilma Strickler of Springfield, OH, Vickey Ness of Zanesville, OH, Kathy Burcham of La Follette, TN, Christine (Brian) Miller of Malta, OH, one brotherin-law, Jerry Hunter of McConnelsville, and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by many, a caring cremation will take place at Donald’s request, and a memorial service will be at a later date.
