Artwork aplenty at Kaiapoi Expo
Record entries will line at the Corcoran
French Kaiapoi Art Expo at the Kaiapoi
Club on Saturday and Sunday, July 16 to
17.
The expo will feature awhopping 132
artists and more than 750 artworks, says
Waimakariri Arts Trust chairperson
Jackie Watson.
The 16th annual Kaiapoi Art Expo is
Waimakariri district’s largest visual art
show and attracts large crowds every
year.
‘‘It’s our biggest ever. We’ve got more
artists than we’ve had before,’’ she says.
‘‘We’re just hoping there will be plenty
of room to move around.’’
The artists include 82 returning artists
and 50 first time entrants, which means
the expo ‘‘is finding amarket for both
emerging and established artists,
ensuring the event is continually
evolving’’, Jackie says.
The Pak’n Save Rangiora School Art
Expo also features arecord number of
entries with 15 Waimakariri Schools
participating.
Those schools include: Ashgrove
School, Kaiapoi Borough School,
Kaiapoi High School, Kaiapoi North
School, Oxford Area School, Rangiora
Borough School, Rangiora New Life
School, St Joseph's Catholic School, St
Patrick's Catholic School, Swannanoa
Guest artist ... Kim Henderson, of
Motunau Beach, in Greta Valley, with some
of her work on opening night at the Kaiapoi
Art Expo last year.

The Waimakariri Public Arts Trust
will feature acentre stage with an
impressive display of sculptures, as it
looks to promote its efforts to display art
in the community.
Sculptures from Kaiapoi’s Mark
Larsen, Ngai Tahu artist Piri Cowie,
Amberley’s Sharon Eagle, Waipara’s
Raymond Herber and Timaru’s Debbie
Templeton­Page will all feature.
Proceeds from last year’s expo have
been used to commission asculpture
from Mr Herber, with the Waimakariri
Public Arts Trust arranging for a
suitable location.
Organisers are looking forward to
hosting the more than 4000 visitors
expected to attend the weekend art
show.
Budding artists are encouraged to
come along to the expo on Saturday and
Have­A­Go themselves, with assistance
from local artists, who will be setup
downstairs at the Kaiapoi Club to
demonstrate their talents from 10am to
3pm.
Once again the Kaiapoi Art Expo will
be supported by the Blackwell's Live Ice
Sculpting from 12.30pm in the carpark
on Saturday, followed by the Blackwell's
Fire and Ice Market in the evening.
The All Together Kaiapoi ‘‘Light up
Kaiapoi’’ lanterns will also be glowing
for the week leading up to the Corcoran
French Kaiapoi Art Expo.
