Artwork aplenty at Kaiapoi Expo<br />

Record entries will line at the Corcoran<br />

French Kaiapoi Art Expo at the Kaiapoi<br />

Club on Saturday and Sunday, <strong>July</strong> 16 to<br />

17.<br />

The expo will feature awhopping 132<br />

artists and more than 750 artworks, says<br />

Waimakariri Arts Trust chairperson<br />

Jackie Watson.<br />

The 16th annual Kaiapoi Art Expo is<br />

Waimakariri district’s largest visual art<br />

show and attracts large crowds every<br />

year.<br />

‘‘It’s our biggest ever. We’ve got more<br />

artists than we’ve had before,’’ she says.<br />

‘‘We’re just hoping there will be plenty<br />

of room to move around.’’<br />

The artists include 82 returning artists<br />

and 50 first time entrants, which means<br />

the expo ‘‘is finding amarket for both<br />

emerging and established artists,<br />

ensuring the event is continually<br />

evolving’’, Jackie says.<br />

The Pak’n Save Rangiora School Art<br />

Expo also features arecord number of<br />

entries with 15 Waimakariri Schools<br />

participating.<br />

Those schools include: Ashgrove<br />

School, Kaiapoi Borough School,<br />

Kaiapoi High School, Kaiapoi <strong>North</strong><br />

School, Oxford Area School, Rangiora<br />

Borough School, Rangiora New Life<br />

School, St Joseph's Catholic School, St<br />

Patrick's Catholic School, Swannanoa<br />

Guest artist ... Kim Henderson, of<br />

Motunau Beach, in Greta Valley, with some<br />

of her work on opening night at the Kaiapoi<br />

The Waimakariri Public Arts Trust<br />

will feature acentre stage with an<br />

impressive display of sculptures, as it<br />

looks to promote its efforts to display art<br />

in the community.<br />

Larsen, Ngai Tahu artist Piri Cowie,<br />

Amberley’s Sharon Eagle, Waipara’s<br />

Raymond Herber and Timaru’s Debbie<br />

Templeton­Page will all feature.<br />

Proceeds from last year’s expo have<br />

been used to commission asculpture<br />

from Mr Herber, with the Waimakariri<br />

Public Arts Trust arranging for a<br />

suitable location.<br />

Organisers are looking forward to<br />

hosting the more than 4000 visitors<br />

expected to attend the weekend art<br />

show.<br />

Budding artists are encouraged to<br />

come along to the expo on Saturday and<br />

Have­A­Go themselves, with assistance<br />

from local artists, who will be setup<br />

downstairs at the Kaiapoi Club to<br />

demonstrate their talents from 10am to<br />

3pm.<br />

Once again the Kaiapoi Art Expo will<br />

be supported by the Blackwell's Live Ice<br />

Sculpting from 12.30pm in the carpark<br />

on Saturday, followed by the Blackwell's<br />

Fire and Ice Market in the evening.<br />

The All Together Kaiapoi ‘‘Light up<br />

Kaiapoi’’ lanterns will also be glowing<br />

for the week leading up to the Corcoran<br />

French Kaiapoi Art Expo.<br />
