10 Fun Things to do on a Rainy Day
Blog the Bucket List Journey by Annette
White, has some fantastic weird, wild and
fun ideas to pass the time on the rainy
days, of which we have had many here
in Christchurch! Here are my top ten
favourite ideas.
1. Have an Indoor Picnic
Picnics aren’t just for the outdoors—clear
a space on your living room floor and
recreate a memorable dining experience.
You can even pack a traditional wicker
basket with your favourite picnic foods
and enjoy the feast without going too far.
2. Have a Spa Day
It’s entirely up to you whether you invest
in a treatment at a high-end spa or create
your own at home. In any case, a self-care
day will leave you feeling completely
revitalized.
3. Write a Thank You Note to Someone
Who Deserves It
So often people want to tell a company
or friend how they feel when they are
not satisfied, instead write a thank you
to show your appreciation for a job well
done.
4. Research your Family Tree
It’s getting easier to find out your roots,
so spark up an interest in genealogy and
start researching your family tree. You
can start your search at My Heritage who
offers a 14-day free trial or Ancestry.com
who gives you a free starter account.
5. Learn to Use Chopsticks
Not very many adults know how to do
this and even fewer kids can comfortably
use chopsticks. Do you want to seem
sophisticated and well-cultured, then
learn how to use chopsticks. You can
impress your friends when you are all out
for sushi.
6. Try to Meditate
Meditation is much more than sitting in
a lotus position chanting “om” over and
over again—it is a way of life. Clearing
your mind through meditation has many
benefits, like lowering blood pressure
and anxiety levels. Plus, it can give you a
brighter outlook on life!
7. Learn a New Language
You can learn a new skill at any age, so
why not learn a new language? It can be
a fun and interactive experience for the
whole family. Perhaps you can learn the
language of a dream destination where
you hope to go on a vacation someday?
Duolingo is a great program to get you
started.
The Office of the Privacy
Commissioner (OPC) has
now begun the process of
using mystery shoppers in the
private rental sector to monitor
property managers and their
activities. The process began in
March 2022, and the OPC are
now checking on how property
management organisations are
operating within the private
sector. Effectively, using
mystery shoppers, the OPC
is checking whether property
managers are asking for the right
information, at the right time, in
line with the privacy principles
defined in the Privacy Act 2020.
While the report I have read
talks specifically on their audit
on property management
companies, it seems likely that
they will also be calling private
landlords who are advertising
their own properties as well.
The OPC has the right – if
landlords or property managers
are found to be in breach of the
Privacy Act – to issue warning
letters, access directions,
compliance notices, referral
to the Human Rights Review
Tribunal, publicly naming
a company, or making
a complaint to the Privacy
Commissioner.
Do you know and understand
what you can and cannot ask a
potential tenant and at what stage
you can ask them? Did you know
you are no longer authorised to
request all the information at
once, it is instead a process with
several steps involved?
If you don’t it is certainly worth
doing the research as the penalty
for failure to comply with a
Compliance Notice is a fine up to
$10,000.
