Love it or hate it, it looks likely that unpredictably
warm summers are here to stay. And whilst we’re
all hopefully doing our best to be kinder to the
environment, we need to learn how to adapt to these
changeable temperatures. Whether it’s harnessing the
strength of plants that can withstand warmer climes – like
Jo Arnell who shares her recommendations for tropical
greenery that can thrive in an English summer garden on
page 104 – or learning how to keep up an exercise regime
when the degrees are set against us à la Sarah Maxwell on
page 95, there’s plenty we can do to be better prepared.
We loved touring the two gorgeous homes for our shoots
this month. The beautifully dark interior created by superstylish
Jen MacLeay is filled with rich colour and offers
the perfect place to entertain friends, with a carefully
curated bar in all the main rooms! And the owners of
Hastings Old Town’s emporium of all things interesting,
Merchant57, open the door to their wonderfully patternfilled
home, just a stone’s throw from the seafront.
Recipes this month come courtesy of seasonal saviours
Riverford, who share moreish dishes that can be made
using autumnal veggies grown on their organic farms.
Speaking of autumn, it won’t be long until we start to notice
the evenings drawing in and cosiness becomes a priority. Rebecca
