Given the circumstances of the past<br />
two years, I think that it is safe to say<br />
we are back stronger than ever, with<br />
a diverse and dynamic programme of<br />

This year we have lined up a series<br />
of thought-provoking keynote<br />
speeches, delivered by prominent<br />
international decision-makers from<br />
the fields of consumer electronics,<br />
home appliances and related<br />
industries. Starting at 10am in Hall<br />
23, Cristiano Amon, president and<br />
CEO of Qualcomm, will be giving<br />
this year’s opening keynote speech<br />
on how new experiences are coming<br />
to virtually every connected device,<br />
from PCs to extended reality devices<br />
and cars.<br />
For those of you like me who are keen<br />
to know what the future holds, the<br />
IFA NEXT area in Hall 20 is the place.<br />
Here, research institutes, start-ups,<br />
associations and other experts from<br />
industry and science will be taking<br />
to the stage over the coming days<br />
to try and answer this question and<br />
present some of the latest disrupting<br />
technologies.<br />
Also high on this morning's agenda<br />
is SHIFT Mobility who will be<br />
welcoming visitors at 9:30am, to learn<br />
about the most promising visions,<br />
future trends and breakthroughs in<br />
the field of mobility. This novel global<br />

IFA 2022: Welcoming back<br />
the world of consumer and<br />
home electronics<br />
The IFA opening press conference hails the<br />
return of personal interaction, collaboration<br />
and co-innovation<br />
The tone of the IFA opening press conference on Wednesday was positive<br />
and optimistic, with a sense of joy and gratitude that the event could finally<br />
take place again in person, after the disruption caused by the pandemic.<br />
"This trade fair serves a fundamental human need<br />
for first-hand experiences," said Martin Ecknig,<br />
CEO, Messe Berlin, addressing the packed<br />
conference area. "We are here to reconnect, to<br />
interact, to collaborate and to co-innovate. We<br />
will define the future of technology. What you see<br />
at IFA 2022 will shape our world for the time after<br />
the pandemic," he added, before highlighting<br />
some other key moments in the event's history<br />
- Albert Einstein speaking here in 1930 and the<br />
IFA debuts of colour TVs and digital music in the<br />
1960s and 1990s respectively.<br />
Opening the event, Dr Sara Warneke, MD, gfu,<br />
demonstrated how the last two years have seen<br />
a "pandemic-related boom accompanied by<br />
exceptional growth." She continued: "Consumers<br />
were more oriented towards their homes, with<br />
'stay at home' being the catchphrase. For our<br />
industry, comparing 2019 with 2021 we see<br />
a growth of 17%. Entertainment, the technical<br />
possibilities of working and learning at home,<br />
as well as devices for cooking and baking were<br />
particularly highly in demand."<br />
Dr Warneke advised that, while this growth phase<br />
was over and global markets are normalising<br />
or decelerating across all industries, there are<br />
signs that household appliance sales have the<br />
potential for continued growth as consumers<br />
look for products with increased energy<br />
efficiency, longevity and smart connectivity in<br />
response to rising energy costs and growing<br />
eco-consciousness.<br />
The come-back of the world's leading fair for<br />
consumer and home electronics offers another<br />
essential growth impulse: "IFA - the world's<br />
most important trade show for consumer and<br />
home electronics - will make its contribution to<br />
a successful year-end spurt," she concluded,<br />
adding that the FIFA World Cup taking place in<br />
the winter would be likely to further boost TV<br />
and home entertainment sales for the year-end<br />
season.<br />
Both Dr Warneke and Martin Ecknig referred to<br />
the issues facing the global industry - the Ukraine<br />
conflict, supply-chain issues, rising inflation and<br />
continuing pandemic-related travel restrictions<br />
- and how these are affecting consumer<br />
confidence. As a result, de-globalisation joins<br />
sustainability as a prominent and urgent topic<br />
of conversation at IFA 2022. On the perennial<br />
subject of the Smart Home, Dr Warneke added:<br />
"Energy saving is a very important issue that will<br />
accompany us during the winter and into the<br />
future, so the adoption of Smart Home should<br />
finally be accelerated"<br />

Bosch presents full<br />
product range at its<br />
IFA press conference<br />
The latest Bosch innovations, from home security to kitchen<br />
and household appliances, are on display under one roof for<br />
the first time at IFA 2022.<br />
Bosch used its bustling IFA press<br />
conference to introduce the latest<br />
technologies from its wide portfolio<br />
of product categories, which will<br />
be promoted in the framework of its<br />
dynamic new #LikeABosch campaign<br />
at IFA 2022. The humorous campaign<br />
was created in collaboration with Die<br />
Fantastischen Vier, a famous German<br />
hip-hop group which will also be<br />
appearing at the Bosch stand today at<br />
13:00.<br />
Harald Friedrich, MD, Robert<br />
Bosch Hausgeräte GmbH, used his<br />
presentation to take the audience on a<br />
dawn-to-dusk tour of the smart home<br />
as seen by Bosch, starting off with<br />
the Door/Window Contact II and II<br />
Plus, promising energy efficiency and<br />
security in one.<br />
Attendees were then transported to the<br />
breakfast table where the Unlimited 7<br />
ProHygienic Aqua is there to clean the<br />
"kitchen battleground," Mr Friedrich<br />
said. Combining mopping and<br />
vacuuming, the product removes dust<br />
and stains in a time-saving manner.<br />
Another innovation highlighted during<br />
the presentation, Cookit from Bosch<br />
prepares simple and fresh food for<br />
lunch with the choice of three cooking<br />
modes including guided, automatic,<br />
and manual. Recipes can be shared<br />
with the Home Connect app, while the<br />
new integrated Series 6 dishwasher is<br />
on hand to clean up.<br />
Aiming to make 'afternoon laundry'<br />
more time- and energy-efficient,<br />
the new Bosch premium washing<br />
machines in Series 8 not only belong<br />
to the highest energy efficiency class<br />
A, but even undercut its requirement<br />
by an additional 20%. This is made<br />
possible, in part, by highly efficient<br />
water management thanks to the latest<br />
i-DOS automatic dosing system which<br />
automatically ensures perfect dosing<br />
for each wash cycle, protecting both<br />
fabrics and skin. Meanwhile the new<br />
Series 8 heat pump dryer in EEC A+++<br />
is another 10% more efficient than the<br />
best EEC A+++2.<br />
In the evening, the new Radiator<br />
Thermostats II is on hand to heat<br />
each room with energy efficiency and<br />
exactly as needed<br />

Siemens wows with<br />
stunning new brand<br />
identity at IFA 2022<br />
Michael Mehnert, managing director of Siemens Home<br />
Appliances since April this year, used the company's IFA press<br />
conference on Wednesday to present Siemens' stunning<br />
new brand identity and exciting IFA product innovations to a<br />
packed audience.<br />
The company's latest smart appliances<br />
cater to what consumers value<br />
most in the kitchen and at home,<br />
according to two surveys by the<br />
German Zukunftsinstitut. Siemens<br />
commissioned the research to learn<br />
more about how consumers' desires<br />
have changed during the pandemic.<br />
During his presentation, Mr Mehnert<br />
said it revealed a "new way of living"<br />
which serves as the inspiration behind<br />
the brand's latest technologies.<br />
"What is typical for new living on the<br />
one hand is the meaning of our home,"<br />
he told the conference. "The home is<br />
more important than ever before and<br />
this is directly related to the time we<br />
have spent there over the past two<br />
years. We as a brand are pleased by<br />
that because if people appreciate their<br />
home more, they are also willing to<br />
invest more in high quality, beautiful<br />
and sustainable products."<br />
Further insights reveal that consumers<br />
expect progress to encompass health<br />
and well-being compared to the<br />
previous idea of having "more, faster".<br />
The findings led to the conception<br />
of the new EQ900 fully automatic<br />
espresso machine where everything<br />
from temperature to quantity can be<br />
adjusted manually, to enable a unique<br />
user experience and coffee enjoyment.<br />
It also inspired smart kitchen<br />
appliances that communicate with one<br />
another and can be controlled via the<br />
new Smart Kitchen Dock.<br />
Mr Mehnert introduced the iQ700 Duo<br />
for laundry as "our highlight this year"<br />
washing up to 65% faster and drying<br />
up to 35% faster, with Mini Load and<br />
smartFinish features. Meanwhile the<br />
iQ700 oven uses AI to achieve results<br />
according to individual tastes.<br />

Samsung's vision for 2022<br />
At its press conference at IFA 2022, Samsung Electronics<br />
delivered its vision for a smarter life and a sustainable future.<br />
The presentation highlighted the company’s updated and<br />
improved SmartThings feature, which promises to unlock<br />
new possibilities and potential across Samsung’s product<br />
categories.<br />
“We’re here to do the SmartThings,<br />
by connecting devices like never<br />
before and making them truly smart”,<br />
said Benjamin Braun, CMO and VP,<br />
Samsung Europe. “It’s all about making<br />
life easier”.<br />
The SmartThings platform has been<br />
integrated across many of Samsung’s<br />
product categories, with around 40<br />
Samsung home appliances that are<br />
SmartThings enabled, including ovens,<br />
TVs, washing machines and more.<br />
“If someone rings my Ring doorbell, I<br />
see who it is on my Samsung TV and<br />
my Family Hub refrigerator, or on my<br />
foldable Samsung phone when I’m out<br />
and about”, Mr Braun explained.<br />

credentials at IFA<br />
Miele outlined its sustainability pledges during its press<br />
conference on Wednesday and introduced the range of<br />
products on show at this year's IFA.<br />

directors Dr Markus Miele and Dr<br />
Reinhard Zinkann, as well as Dr Axel<br />

Elaborating on the company motto<br />

message was one of continued focus<br />
on sustainability at every level - from<br />

the demand for high-quality domestic<br />
appliances - especially in the built-in<br />
sector - remains high. People seem<br />
to be buying more consciously, with<br />
regard to the longevity and energy<br />
efficiency of the appliances," he said.<br />
Dr Miele listed the company's three<br />
pledges towards achieving 100%<br />
carbon neutrality and net zero waste :<br />
"Make sustainability happen at every<br />
step; make appliances that won't leave<br />
a mark, with the least impact on the<br />
environment; and end waste by giving<br />
our appliances a new life."<br />
With a raft of new appliances and their<br />
associated technological innovations<br />
making their international debut<br />
exclusively at IFA Berlin - including<br />
hobs, refrigerators, dishwashers<br />
and steam-ovens - it was clear that<br />
Dr Axel Kniehl saw IFA as a key<br />
opportunity for Miele to demonstrate<br />
its green credentials. "We now produce<br />
appliances that are using over 55%<br />
less energy today than they were<br />
twenty years ago; and in the case of<br />
washing machines it is significantly<br />
more - 72%", he said<br />

Speaking at the IFA opening press<br />
conference on Wednesday, Dr Sara<br />
Warneke, MD, gfu, gave a clear picture<br />
of the current state of the industry.<br />
"In 2020 and 2021, there was a pandemic-related<br />
boom accompanied by exceptional growth. This phase<br />
is now over. However, sales are still well above prepandemic<br />
2019 levels," she said.<br />
"The global market for technical consumer goods<br />
(TCGs) amounted to $1.2tn in 2019, a decline of 2.8%<br />
in comparison to 2018. In 2020, the effects of the<br />
pandemic were already being felt, as consumers were<br />
more oriented towards their homes. Growth amounted<br />
to 3.9%. 2021 was particularly positive for our<br />
industries, as growth amounted to 12.6%, increasing<br />
overall to more than $1.4tn."<br />
Dr Warneke advised that while this exceptional positive<br />
development has ended, there were still many "sweet<br />
spots" offering growth opportunities, such as IT and<br />
home office devices, small domestic appliances as<br />
well as large appliances. And current sales are still<br />
above 2019 levels. TCGs grew altogether at a rate of<br />
9% in the first half of each year between 2019 and<br />
2022, however they declined 6% from 2021 to 2022."<br />
Despite obvious global challenges, Dr Warneke<br />
highlighted opportunities for positive developments.<br />
For example: "Energy-efficient appliances help<br />
consumers save not only energy, but also money.<br />
Purchasing a new, more economical unit pays for itself<br />
within a few years due to the achieved savings," she<br />

How does it feel to be back at IFA 2022<br />
in person?<br />
It has been too long. Since the last IFA<br />
event, we have rarely had an overall<br />
product overview and the trends and<br />
the atmosphere of the trade show are<br />
always interesting to experience.<br />
Could you tell us a bit about your<br />
partnership with UEFA Women's<br />
football?<br />
We have started a four-year<br />
partnership journey mainly with the<br />
purpose of balancing and widening<br />
our customer base, attracting younger<br />
and more female audience to our<br />
online and offline operations.<br />
In the Euronics Group, we have<br />
chosen to support inclusivity and to<br />
position ourselves as the dynamic and<br />
progressive retailer. However, since<br />
we signed the agreement with UEFA<br />
which was specifically boosted by<br />
an impressive Women Euro 2022 in<br />
England this summer, the explosive<br />
growing popularity of Women's<br />
Football is also a good opportunity<br />
to build a stronger preference and<br />
awareness of the Euronics brand.<br />
What are the key trends in the consumer<br />
electronics market today?<br />
For retailers it is of course omnichannel<br />
performance which has<br />
undeniably experienced the biggest<br />
evolution during the pandemic.<br />
Moreover, this trend is not going away.<br />
Although overall footfall is lower, it has<br />
been largely compensated by a huge<br />
conversion in store.<br />
Sustainability is one of the hottest topics.<br />
What is your vision and strategy?<br />
Sustainability is a very important<br />
topic for our industry given that it<br />
impacts both the products we sell and<br />
the operations we run. At Euronics,<br />
we have a decided to team up with<br />
KPMG, which has a wide experience<br />
in the field of sustainability. We believe<br />
that this partnership will support us<br />
with an ambitious but obligatory road<br />
map to de-carbonise operations and<br />
move towards a circle economy.<br />
What are the main challenges for<br />
retailers to become more sustainable?<br />
The major challenge is not the<br />
availability of sufficient green energy<br />
sources. This is a journey that has to be<br />
done with local governmental bodies,<br />
however it can also be achieved with<br />
investments and greater commitment.<br />
On a product level, we still live in a<br />
culture of “easy replacement” however<br />
we believe that there are growing<br />
opportunities within refurbishment.<br />

The last two years have seen record sales of<br />
gaming products and accessories, facilitated by<br />
the impact of Covid-19 with people staying at<br />
home and looking for entertainment. However,<br />
gaming accessories could not perform at the<br />
same levels in 2022, with gaming mice and<br />
gaming keyboards declining by 6% and minus<br />
5% respectively.<br />
That said, cordless devices had a successful first<br />
half of 2022, with sales of cordless keyboards and<br />
mice increasing by 48% and 14% respectively.<br />
These segments are still relatively niche, with<br />
revenue not reaching the same level as corded<br />
counterparts. However, due to being easy to use<br />
and handle, the cordless segment is expected to<br />
grow further and bring a positive stimulus to the<br />
gaming accessories market.<br />
GAMING HARDWARE:<br />
MOBILE PC AND MONITOR<br />
The gaming hardware segment, made up of<br />
products such as mobile PCs and monitors,<br />
continued to outperform the category average in<br />
the first half year of 2022.<br />
Gaming laptops achieved 3% growth in this<br />
period, while non-gaming mobile PCs declined<br />
by 7% in revenue in the first half of 2022<br />
compared to the previous year. This is mostly<br />
due to the higher price point of the gaming<br />
segment as a premium product, with an average<br />
selling price of gaming laptops being 1.4 times<br />
higher than the category average.<br />
The total sales of monitors decreased slightly by<br />
4%, but models with a refresh rate of 144 hertz<br />
and higher grew by 4%<br />

Pavilion<br />
This year, the Korea Pavilion, an active participant in<br />
IFA Berlin since 2003, has relocated from IFA Global<br />
Markets to IFA Next.<br />
Here it will shine the spotlight on 16 carefully<br />
selected innovative startups that have shown<br />
exceptional potential in the fields of digital health,<br />
artificial intelligence, IoT, future mobility, VR/AR/MR,<br />
sustainability, smart living, and robotics.<br />
Most of the exhibitors at the Korea<br />
Pavilion are start-ups which were<br />
established less than four years<br />
ago. They are demonstrating<br />
their latest innovative products<br />
and technology in Hall 20, Booth<br />
346. Here, visitors will be able to<br />
experience first-hand Korea’s most<br />
recent and proud inventions.<br />
The pavilion, sponsored by the<br />
Ministry of SMEs and Startups<br />
(MSS), is a joint effort between the<br />
Korea Federation of SMEs (KBIZ)<br />
and Korea Electronics Association<br />
(KEA). The former was established<br />
in 1962 with an aim to protect the<br />
rights and interests of 7.3 million<br />
SMEs in Korea.<br />
Today, the Department of Trade<br />
Promotion at KBIZ conducts<br />
‘Export Consortium Program’ and<br />
annually dispatches about 100<br />
Korea Pavilions, comprised only of<br />
SMEs and startups, to international<br />
exhibitions and trade shows.<br />
Through these events, KBIZ aims<br />
to provide small yet promising<br />
companies with opportunities<br />
to establish overseas networks,<br />
allowing them not only to expand<br />
their market, but also exchange<br />
innovative ideas beyond borders.<br />
The other major organiser, Korea<br />
Electronics Association (KEA),<br />
also plays a significant role in<br />
supporting its members at home<br />
and abroad. As leading economic<br />
organisations in Korea, both will<br />
continue to provide their members<br />
with opportunities to exchange<br />
innovative ideas with international<br />
partners through global trade<br />
shows like IFA, and contribute<br />
to building a global network of<br />
innovative minds<br />

The BEEZER is a futuristic and innovative product which is<br />
looking to claim a place in people's kitchens and living rooms.<br />
The latest invention appears welldeserving<br />
of a place in your kitchen. With<br />
a name cleverly combining the words<br />
“beverage” and “freezer”, the superfast<br />
cooler makes spontaneous plans<br />
possible with perfectly chilled drinks at<br />
the touch of a button.<br />
The BEEZER uses innovative Rapid Air<br />
cooling technology, bringing bottles<br />
or cans to the optimum drinking<br />
temperature in a matter of minutes.<br />
The invention is the product of young,<br />
Munich-based entrepreneurs Moritz<br />
Schüller and Max Huber. The former<br />
thought up the concept during his<br />
student days, and teamed up with<br />
schoolfriend-come-co-founder Huber at<br />
the end of 2019.<br />
The cooler stands out thanks to its<br />
patent-pending air circulation system<br />
that can reach temperatures of below<br />
-30 °C. The BEEZER takes around 10<br />
minutes to pre-cool, before users can<br />
place beverages in the device to have<br />
them cooled at fast speed.<br />
The effectiveness of the product is<br />
enhanced by the cooler’s elegant and<br />
sleek design, helping it blend in with any<br />
type of home.<br />
By 2023, the company claims that the<br />
BEEZER will be the fastest air-based<br />
bottle cooler in the world. For now, it is<br />
definitely an innovative product which<br />
will be welcomed into the kitchen<br />

1 FANTASTICALLY SMART =<br />
WASHING MACHINE & DRYER<br />
Here visitors are able to experience the full force<br />
of the new Bosch Series 8 premium washing<br />
machines, which not only belong to the best<br />
energy efficiency class A, but beat its limit by an<br />
impressive 20%. One of the completely novel<br />
functions of this premium home appliance is the<br />
Mini Load option, which shortens the runtime of<br />
the previously selected wash at the touch of a<br />
button, saving not only time but also water and<br />
energy. Visitors are also able to learn about how<br />
the i-DOS automatic dosing system and Home<br />
Connect app can work together to determine<br />
how much liquid detergent was used.<br />
2 FANTASTICALLY HEALTHY =<br />
COOKIT & OVEN<br />
A must for food lovers, it showcases Bosch's<br />
latest kitchen information sharing hub - Cookit<br />
from Bosch. Plugged into the Home Connect<br />
ecosystem, visitors are able to share all of their<br />
favourite recipes via email or messenger apps.<br />
With three cooking modes, Guided Cooking,<br />
Automatic Programmes and Manual Cooking<br />
- the multi-functional kitchen machine has<br />
all bases covered, whether you wish to follow<br />
your gut feeling or seek assistance. Visitors are<br />
introduced to the 8 Series, the company's new<br />
premium oven range, which cooks certain foods<br />
even faster and is particularly gentle on nutrients.<br />
They are even equipped with Air Fry heating<br />
mode, a method which uses very little oil, but is<br />
just as crispy.<br />
INVENTED FOR LIFE<br />
3 FANTASTICALLY SUSTAINABLE =<br />

Visitors can learn about how Bosch is developing<br />
"fantastically sustainable" energy-efficient<br />
appliances and products, as well as developing<br />
new approaches throughout the entire product<br />
life cycle. The company's drive towards a<br />
sustainable future will be showcased in its latest<br />
cooling innovation, the new Bosch Eco Fridge.<br />
Conventional materials within the state-of-theart<br />
fridge have been replaced with recycled<br />
or CO2-reduced or CO2-neutral alternatives,<br />
reducing its CO2 footprint by 33%. Visitors are<br />
also introduced to a new "noise champion" from<br />
Bosch, the KGN39AIAT which generates an<br />
operating noise of only 29 dB.<br />
4 FANTASTICALLY SIMPLE =<br />
UNLIMITED 7 PROHYGIENIC AQUA<br />
The answer to combining mopping and<br />
vacuuming in a time-saving manner is here<br />
for all to see. Thanks to Bosch's Unlimited 7<br />
ProHygienic Aqua, dust and stains won't stand<br />
a chance, even in hard-to-reach places. Visitors<br />
are introduced to the DynamicAqua nozzle and<br />
AllFloor DynamicPower nozzle with integrated<br />
LED lights, which combine both cleaning<br />
practices in one. They can also learn about the<br />
machine's additional time-saving features, like<br />
its 250 ml water tank which ensures a mopping<br />
range of up to 50 sqm.<br />

Mayor of Berlin hails IFA 2022<br />
as a beacon for the city<br />
IFA's strong return to Berlin sends a powerful message around the world.<br />
Mayor Franziska Giffey explains what hosting the leading trade fair means<br />
to her and the city.<br />
Mayor Giffey says it is "a real pleasure" to<br />
welcome back IFA to Berlin after a two-year<br />
break and gives a personal welcome to exhibitors<br />
and visitors from all over the world.<br />
"We’re glad to have you here again!" she says.<br />
"IFA is well-known as one of the world’s largest<br />
technology fairs. This year, it’s living up to its<br />
reputation again, with the latest trends from the<br />
world of consumer and home electronics.<br />
"Showcasing smart innovations and energyefficient<br />
technologies, this leading trade fair is<br />
a driving force for the economy and for markets<br />
worldwide. It’s one of Berlin’s flagships, not only<br />
as a trade fair and congress, but also as a leading<br />
European hub for innovation and technology. The<br />
2022 IFA is a beacon of sorts, not least because it<br />
stands for a resurgence after two difficult years."<br />
Mayor Giffey reveals ambitions to reposition<br />
Berlin as a hub for international trade fairs<br />
and events. "Many trade fairs, smaller and<br />
larger events alike that give life in Berlin its<br />
characteristic verve, had to be cancelled," she<br />
continues. "Now we can finally take off again and<br />
are looking to pick up where we left off with the<br />
positive economic development that had made<br />
us a leader in Germany before the pandemic.<br />
"The Berlin Senate is supporting the economic<br />
reboot with millions of euros in programmes and<br />
tailor-made measures. We want to reposition<br />
Berlin as a venue for international trade fairs and<br />
events, together with Messe Berlin, which this<br />
year celebrates its 200th anniversary."<br />
