The DoorCo Column
GETTING A GRIP ON THINGS
As GRiPCORE continues to gain traction in the market following its launch last
year, DoorCo tracks the trends that are emerging from sales of its solid timber core
composite door...
The hybrid of cross laminated engineered
hardwood, LVL timber and hardwood stiles &
rails, pressed with our signature 4mm skins,
means that GRiPCORE will not move, bow or twist
more than 3mm and requires minimal maintenance.
Both our distribution and prepped customers
are embracing this new door, which offers a
competitive alternative that is outperforming
existing solid core doors on the market.
GRiPCORE is being easily adopted by all our customers
as manufacturing and handling requirements do not
differ from the existing DoorCo door range.
Something for everyone
As with all composite door sales, the
Contemporary / Designer door market is
particularly buoyant at the moment and many
of the doors we sell lean towards a more
contemporary style.
However, GRiPCORE is popular in the traditional
market too. The most popular door slab last month
was the Farmhouse, which is used to create
popular designs like Sunningdale, Belfry and Pevero
(see right). Second is the ever-popular Carnoustie
and third is the Monza II Designer door.
A modern twist with component choices
Although the Farmhouse and Carnoustie doors are
more conventional woodgrain doors, with the right
combination of colour, glass and FLiP glazing cassette,
the styles can certainly be made to look more
contemporary. This is particularly apparent when you
look at the stats on GLAZiNG from last month.
The most popular decorative glass design sold
with GRiPCORE doors is Artemis which, with
its simple yet extremely effective design of an
etched glass centre and clear border, offers a
modern twist popular across all our collections.
The Pevero door
The same goes for Louisiana, the second most
popular decorative glass design sold last month.
Louisiana has a multifaceted bevelled design with
stunning textured glass and is available on many
of our Traditional, Contemporary and Designer
door styles to deliver undoubted kerb appeal.
When it comes to colour, greys are still leading
the pack in the prepped door sales. Anthracite,
a DoorCo standard colour, remains top of the
“When it comes to
colour, greys are still
leading the pack in the
prepped door sales”
chart and there are five other greys in our top 10
painted colours, including the premium shade
of Agate Grey. The second popular colour is
Chartwell Green, another standard DoorCo colour.
Blue and Black also feature in the top 10.
In correlation with the door and GLAZiNG trends
favouring the more traditional style, the most
popular glazing cassette for both prepped, paint no
prep, and distribution customers is FLiP Standard,
our moulded woodgrain glazing cassette option.
However, this is closely followed by FLiP Flat
Grained, the perfect partner to Farmhouse and
Monza II with its flat profile and woodgrain finish.
This alludes to both the increasing trend of adding
a modern twist to traditional styles as well as the
growing popularity of Designer high-end doors.
The ultra-contemporary Inox cassette, largely
used on the Flush door is in the top 5, along with
FLiP Flat Stipple – the perfect partner to Links,
our aluminium-alternative composite door.
Designer choices
The most popular design of GRiPCORE Monza
II sales is the Augusta, making up over half our
prepped doors produced last month.
With its simple, slim glazed panel and parallel pull
handle, the Augusta has a clean modern style and
is available in a few variations with left and right
positioning and a full length glazed panel option.
When it comes to Designer colour, our Patina
