Replenish, Rekindle, Rec<strong>on</strong>nect<br />

For <strong>the</strong> first time since before <strong>the</strong><br />

pandemic, <strong>Wall</strong> Residences staff were<br />

able to ga<strong>the</strong>r in pers<strong>on</strong> for a Staff<br />

C<strong>on</strong>ference at <strong>the</strong> Floyd EcoVillage.<br />

Held September 20 - 22, <strong>the</strong> event<br />

combined team specific training,<br />

cross-department strategic planning<br />

discussi<strong>on</strong> sessi<strong>on</strong>s, and activites<br />

intended to provide a bit of respite.<br />

Tuesday kicked off <strong>the</strong> event with<br />

team building and training for <strong>the</strong><br />

Therapeutic C<strong>on</strong>sulti<strong>on</strong>, Applied<br />

Behavioral Analysis, WRAP, and RN<br />

Care Management teams. More staff<br />

arrived at lunchtime. In <strong>the</strong> afterno<strong>on</strong>,<br />

we heard from state representatives<br />

from <strong>the</strong> Office of Licensing and<br />

Divisi<strong>on</strong> of Developmental Services,<br />

as well as from Hea<strong>the</strong>r Nort<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong><br />

Assistant Comissi<strong>on</strong>er from DBHDS.<br />

Wednesday found staff sorted into<br />

diverse groups to allow differing<br />

experience and viewpoints to come<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r as staff from various regi<strong>on</strong>s<br />

and roles formed small discussi<strong>on</strong><br />

groups. It was a day of open, transparent<br />

sharing as we tackled <strong>the</strong> big<br />

questi<strong>on</strong>s of what is working, what<br />

creates frustrati<strong>on</strong>s and hurdles, and<br />

brainstormed toge<strong>the</strong>r for soluti<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

The day closed with activity stati<strong>on</strong>s,<br />

including a private c<strong>on</strong>cert by staff<br />

member and singer/s<strong>on</strong>gwriter Emmaline<br />

Hicks, who was recently featured<br />

at FloydFest.<br />

Thursday’s focus was Sp<strong>on</strong>sored<br />

Residential Services, with detailed<br />

trainings provided <strong>on</strong> home studies,<br />

compliance, and capacity evaluati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

for Program Managers, Regi<strong>on</strong>al Coordinators,<br />

Admissi<strong>on</strong>s & Marketing,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Quality Assurance Team.<br />

While <strong>the</strong> training and small group<br />

discussi<strong>on</strong> formed <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>tent<br />

of <strong>the</strong> agenda, <strong>the</strong> real<br />

key to <strong>the</strong> event was <strong>the</strong><br />

simple fact of being toge<strong>the</strong>r<br />

in pers<strong>on</strong>. <strong>Wall</strong> Residences<br />

has grown remarkably in<br />

<strong>the</strong> past several years and<br />

for many staff, <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>ference<br />

was <strong>the</strong> first chance<br />

to interact with o<strong>the</strong>rs as<br />

more than just a face <strong>on</strong><br />

a screen. Both new and<br />

l<strong>on</strong>gtime staff shared simply<br />

being toge<strong>the</strong>r and meeting those<br />

<strong>the</strong>y had not yet was meaningful<br />

and appreciated. We are grateful<br />

for this chance of time set aside to<br />

replenish, rekindle, and rec<strong>on</strong>nect!<br />
