ATALIE Vickers (right) is all smiles after winning
the reader competition to celebrate the recent
200th edition of Dronfield Eye magazine.
Natalie, a postal worker from Dronfield Woodhouse, has
chosen to spend her £200 voucher prize at Bamboo.
She is pictured after her first visit to the Pentland Road hair and
beauty salon with Helen Kitson, senior stylist.
Said a thrilled Natalie: “After entering the competition, I started
looking through Dronfield Eye to see where I would spend the
voucher if I won. So when I found out I was the lucky winner, I
didn’t have to think where to choose - I’d already decided to
come to Bamboo.”
Free-to-stand is offer
at Dronfield Market
Dear Dronfield Eye,
WE are happy to announce that our Dronfield Community
Outside Market is now free to stand, up until Christmas.
The market is remaining outside, partly due to the Sports
Centre having alteration works done with their heating system,
and to keep the costs down for the stallholders.
We have spoken to market visitors and they comment on the
lack of stalls. We have had some lovely stalls, but due to lack of
footfall, they cannot afford to come back.
The volunteers who run the market would really appreciate
support from the community to enable the market to continue.
Anyone wishing to have a stall, please contact our Market
Co-ordinator, Shelley Hinson, on 07890 843166, or send an
email to: coordinator@dronfield2gether.org.uk
We are also happy to have a different charity stall each week,
so if you know of any charity which is wanting to raise funds, do
ask them to give Shelley a call.
Or, if you would like to be part of our team, as a volunteer, do
let us know.
Target hardening
your home
Pc Julian Matthews,
SNT Officer based at
Lea Road in Dronfield,
explains how we can
all play our part in
reducing burglaries
T
OWARDS the end of last
year, the North East local
policing unit, which includes
Dronfield and rural areas, had
a large increase in dwelling
burglaries which adversely affected our communities.
Whilst dedicated police officers and Community Support
officers of the Derbyshire Constabulary robustly investigate these
offences and target resources accordingly, Derbyshire Police
cannot alone reduce and prevent the opportunity for your home
to be targetted by a burglar.
We do rely on the community’s support in reporting suspicious
incidents and callers in your area. This helps us to build a wider
intelligence picture as to who is coming into our areas and
committing crime.
As a local SNT, we work hard to not only support our busy
response officers who respond to your 999 calls, but also to
reassure the community on all aspects of local policing including
following up burglary victims to offer support and crime
prevention advice, whilst our response officers continue to
investigate the crime.
The SNT is willing to help you to target harden your property by
offering a free visit to assess your security and advise where it
can be improved. We use the ten principles of crime prevention
when we do this:
Target hardening.
Target removal.
Reducing the means.
Reducing the pay-off.
Access control.
Surveillance.
Environmental change.
Rule setting.
Increase the chances of being caught.
Deflecting offenders.
If you would like to speak to our team further in regard to this
matter, to get advice in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch
scheme or to arrange a home visit to assess your security,
contact us through our Facebook page, Dronfield Police SNT.
Continue to report non-urgent crimes by either telephone using
101, online through the Derbyshire Constabulary “report a crime”
portal or 999 if urgent where life or property is at risk.
Do not report crimes via our Dronfield SNT Facebook page as
this is not reviewed 24/7 and the report will not be triaged to the
correct team to deal.
You can also do it via the following methods:
• On Twitter @DerPolContact
• Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or www.crimestoppers-uk.org
If you're hard of hearing or have a speech impairment, use the
textphone service 18001 101 or text 07800 002414 or email
deafsms@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk
Please stay safe and support our efforts and the local Town
Council to continue to make Dronfield a safe place to live.
