Smith Street Speed Limits –Only aFew
Days Le toHave Your Say
Should we lower the Smith Street speed limit from
80km to 50km?
The Council is reviewing speed limits to ensure
roads have safe and appropriate speeds for their
current use.
This review focuses between the SH1 motorway
interchange and the Cam River bridge.
Further development istaking place in the
commercial area on the south side of the
road. This means the current speed limit is not
appropriate for the future urban residential and
commercial setting.
We welcome your feedback on the proposed
change. Share your thoughts with us on the link
below before Monday 28November 2022.
Road Resealing Programme
This summer it’s sealing season. Council is rolling
out its road resurfacing programme and you will
see contractors working on various roads around
the District.
To begin with contractors will prepare the roads,
ready to be sealed. This involves minor repairs
including filling potholes, repairing edge break and
carrying out minor levelling works before the new
chipseal is applied.
Thework will be carriedout duringthe day and
contractors willtry andkeepdisruptiontoaminimum
however, theremay be some impacts including:
• Limited traffic movementthroughthe street, some
controlled access and reduced on-street parking
• There may be some noise and vibration from
construction during the day
• The area will be swept within 48 hours of sealing
but we would expect asmall amount of ongoing
chip loss over the next 3-6 months.
Letterdrops will be carried out prior to chipsealing
being carried out. This is an ongoing programme so
keepaneye on ourFacebook pagefor regular updates.
