Organiser Bev Wright saysthe volunteers are ready to go, and now they need food, gifts,Christmas supplies and treatstocollect when Toot for Tucker hitsthe streets of Rangiora, Oxford,Pegasus, Woodend, Amberleyand Kaiapoi between6pm and 7pm on Tuesday, December 6. Food bankshave been busy supportingfamilies struggling in the wake of Covid19 and the continuing cost of living crisis, are hoping for a much needed boost to help them get through the Christmas period. ‘‘What we really need is food for the food banks, not just for Christmas but for the months thatcome after it. ‘‘Times can get toughwhen people go back to workafter Christmas and the kidsgoback to school.’’ When finances are tight,food is usually the first thing people cut back on, Bev says. ‘‘We are catering for thewhole communityand there’s always times when people find it abit tough. ‘‘Budgets are pretty toughfor many families. Eventhose on two incomes are struggling. ‘‘Keeping yourcar on the road and insured,soyou can go to work, means the onlyreal flexibility in the budget for mostpeople is food, or Christmas presents.’’ Everything collectedonthe night will stay in <strong>North</strong> <strong>Canterbury</strong>. Toot for Tucker collections in Oxford and Cust will go to the Oxford Community Trust’s food bank, while food collectedinRangiora and Woodend/Pegasus will go to the Rangiora Salvation Army. Donations in Kaiapoi will go to Kaiapoi CommunitySupport’s food pantry and foodcollected in Amberley will stay in the area, with some of the smaller foodbanks in Waipara and Hawarden also getting atop up. Thereare no bags again this year, Toot for Tucker ...
