Supporting Children in Shelter
Parents are responsible for
their children.
Volunteers can never be alone with children of
any age. All children under the age of 6 must be
supervised at all times by their parents. Older
children do not have to be in their parent’s sight at
all times, but it is their parents’ job to supervise
them.
FPM is a “mandated reporter” of
suspected incidents of abuse or
neglect. If a volunteer suspects a
child is being mistreated or
neglected, they should
immediately communicate their
concerns to our Program Director
(see page 70).
