Clamp the two bolts <strong>to</strong>gether. Heat the ends <strong>of</strong> both bolts. Place the bolt assembly in the vise and hammer<br />
the tails in<strong>to</strong> a sharp bend.<br />
Place both bolts on the cover plate in a locked position. <strong>The</strong> reference line on the cover plate pattern is the<br />
location <strong>of</strong> the centerline <strong>of</strong> the dogs. Mark that line on each bolt.<br />

<strong>The</strong> bolt dogs are made from 3/8” (10 mm) square bar. For each dog, forge a short length <strong>of</strong> the square bar<br />
down <strong>to</strong> a 1/4“ (6 mm) thickness. This will result in a flat bar that is approximately 1/4" x 1/2” (6 mm x 13<br />
mm).<br />
<strong>The</strong> dog for the lower bolt is made by cutting a 1/4” (6 mm) square tenon in the middle <strong>of</strong> the 1/2” (13 mm)<br />
wide section <strong>of</strong> the bar. Scribe the length <strong>of</strong> the dog on the bar. Cut the dog slightly longer than the length<br />
given on the pattern.<br />
