•From page 1 Police told him they had spoken to the registered owner of the van who said he could not remember where he was on the day of the burglary and someone else could have been using his van. Senior Sergeant Rachel Walker said police had conducted inquiries at the registered owner’s last known address which had “proved negative.” She urged the public to phone 105 and quote file number 230310/3913 if they saw the vehicle. “A detailed description of the location and any occupants of the vehicle would be appreciated.” The victim feared someone else could get hurt. He saw one of the items left at the scene of the home burglary was an axe, brought in from the man’s woodshed, possibly with the intention of being used as a weapon if someone had been home. City2Surf: Danny did it! • By Heidi Slade DANNY ODOM took more big strides at the weekend as he recovers from a quadruple by-pass. The 61-year-old completed the Les Mills City2Surf 6km event from Avon Park to the Rawhiti Domain finish line in New Brighton. It was a major step in the right direction after a mild heart attack just over three months ago led to the potentially life saving operation. Odom was among several thousand people who walked and ran the 6km and 12km distances in perfect conditions on Sunday. He was supported on the walk by his wife Wendy, Breeze presenters Hilary and Fitzy and the show’s producer Ryan Foster. Odom has been a longtime Breeze listener. He completed the course in one hour, 29 minutes and 54 seconds, just inside his goal of an hour and a half. He said it was “exhilarating” to be part of the Les Mills City- 2Surf. “Being among thousands of positive people was amazing. I thoroughly recommend it,” he said. “If someone who has had their heart in someone else’s hands can do it, anyone can.” Odom paid tribute to staff at Christchurch Hospital. When he came from hospital he struggled to walk to his letterbox and back. But within a few weeks, he was walking five kilometres a day. PHOTOS: RYAN FOSTER Blackmail complaint by public figure after sexual encounter • By Sam Sherwood A CANTERBURY public figure has complained to police about allegations he was blackmailed by someone he had a sexual encounter with. The public figure declined to comment to the NZ Herald on Tuesday. He said he was aware the accused had raised concerns about him to the head of the organisation he is associated with, which he also declined to comment on. He confirmed he was still working at the organisation. A court spokesperson confirmed the defendant, who has name suppression, will appear in court again later this month.
