of the region at<br />
<strong>The</strong> South<br />
Canterbury Museum<br />
<strong>The</strong> South Canterbury Museum is the place<br />
to explore the heritage of our region – nature,<br />
history and culture. Located on Perth Street,<br />
downtown Timaru, the Museum features a<br />
range of exhibitions and public programmes.<br />
Exhibitions feature aspects of local geology<br />
and the natural world, stories from local Mori<br />
heritage and the arrival of European settlers, and<br />
displays that look at how the region has taken<br />
shape and people’s lives have changed over the<br />
last 150 years. Visitors can get close to hundreds<br />
of specimens and artefacts drawn from the<br />
Museum’s rich collections, images, graphics,<br />
moving images and touchscreens that help<br />
visitors explore our heritage further.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Museum also has a changing exhibition<br />
programme with a wide focus on nature, history<br />
and cultural topics. <strong>The</strong>se include local as well<br />
as travelling exhibitions, providing a variety<br />
of experiences for locals and visitors alike. A<br />
regular programme of activities and events<br />
provides holiday activities, public talks and<br />
annual events such as the outdoor Retro Rock<br />
at the Museum concert. Visitors with historical<br />
interests can visit the Museum’s archival area to<br />
delve deeper into aspects of local heritage. <strong>The</strong><br />
Museum’s website (museum.timaru.govt.nz) and<br />
Facebook pages provide regular updates on<br />
what is happening. Membership of the Friends<br />
of the Museum provides regular newsletter and<br />
updates on activities and happenings.<br />
Admission to the Museum is free with koha/<br />

Wander into Artma Spiritual Gallery<br />
in Timaru’s Royal Arcade to leave<br />

Artma Spiritual Gallery is a place<br />
where people can BE in a healthy<br />
environment and allowing you<br />
to bond with crystals rather than<br />
someone trying to sell them to you.<br />
This small business passionately<br />
fundraises for their Nepali Orphan<br />
Fund, with second hand books<br />
and other items, including donated<br />
CRYSTALS.<br />
Artma Spiritual Gallery was established<br />
in 2007 as a fusion between<br />
Art, Crystals and Meditation. Hence<br />
meditation sessions are held after<br />
hours, every Wednesday 7.30pm;<br />
Thursday 9.15am; Saturday 9am.<br />
Attendance is by $5- donation also<br />
for their Nepali Orphan Fund.<br />
