Ravensdown Limited have applied for a discharge permit (CRC<strong>23</strong>0609) to discharge contaminants<br />
to land where it may enter groundwater or surface water.<br />
<strong>The</strong> contaminants originate from fugitive discharges beneath Ravensdown’s site located at 312<br />
Main South Road Hornby, Christchurch legally described as Lot 1 DP 25992, Lot 1 DP 3189, Part<br />
Lot 1 DP 3910, Part Lot 6-11 DP 1391, Part Lot 1-4 DP 2899 and Lot 13-17 DP 2899. <strong>The</strong> site operates<br />
a product intake, a sulphuric acid plant, superphosphate manufacturing plant and fertiliser<br />
storage and despatching facilities. <strong>The</strong> discharge contains elevated concentrations of the following<br />
contaminants.<br />
a. Fluoride,<br />
b. Manganese,<br />
c. Nitrate-nitrogen,<br />
d. Dissolved reactive phosphorus, and<br />
e. Aluminium.<br />
Ravensdown Limited have proposed the following mitigation measures including:<br />
a. improvements over the duration of the consent;<br />
b. a site management plan;<br />
c. groundwater monitoring;<br />
d. annual reporting, and<br />
e. thresholds for reducing monitoring based on the sampling results.<br />
A resource consent duration of 15 years is sought by the applicant.<br />
