Greetings District 2:
I hope everyone is doing well and fairing well through this
Intense Winter. All of our District 2 States have been
overtaken by incredible amounts of rain or snowfall, and in
some cases BOTH! Thankfully, my part of California has
been spared by many of the major storms that have hit hard
all around us and hope that the rest of you and your animals
are doing well too.
I hope everyone is getting ready to fly or drive to Ohio for
our National Show, May 5-7, 2023. The Ohio Mini
Convention is always a great big show and I'm sure we will
have a great time showing our beautiful mini rex there.
Yours truly is hopeful I will have an entry for the first time in
YEARS! Now that I'm judging less, I hope to spend more
time in the barn breeding and showing rabbits! I'm very
excited about being an exhibitor again! :)
I hear rumblings that this Winter has been tough for getting
does bred, and those that do are having very small litters
that either freeze or moms decide not to take care of them.
As we all know, Winter is not a normal time for rabbits to
breed, so it's important that you provide proper shelter,
good quality feed, in slightly larger amounts, and plenty of
fresh water, along with loads of straw for nest boxes, to help
ensure moms stay healthy, comfortable, and willing to take
care of their young. If it's wide-spread in your heard, it
wouldn't hurt to reach out to your feed dealer, or mill, and
inquire if anyone else from your area is complaining about
the same thing; along with environment concerns, the above
issues could also be signs of nutritional deficiencies in bad
feed. Otherwise, the best advise I can give you is to keep
actively trying; the more attempts you make to breed
animals, the more possibilities for successful litters.
Please feel free to reach out if you have questions or
concerns with club business. I look forward seeing you all at
future shows.
Respectfully yours,
Hello Everyone-
NMRRC Publication Quarter 2 April-May-June 2023
I hope everyone is having a productive year of Winter
litters! :)
It's very important that I make all breeders aware of an
important rule that may affect the future of some of our
mini rex varieties. Per page 31 in the SOP, at least 25 rabbits
in a particular breed/variety must be exhibited at ARBA
National Convention Shows (open and youth combined)
during the five year period immediately preceding January 1
of the final year of the existing SOP for retention in the next
SOP. Animals disqualified or Unworthy of an Award are not
counted. As the 2020 ARBA Convention was canceled, the
totals will include counts from the 2021-2024
Conventions. In reviewing the numbers after last year's
ARBA Convention, I am concerned the below varieties may
be dropped if we don't meet the 25 rabbit minimum
requirement:
11
Lynx - 16 Shown; we need 9 more shown
Sable Point - 8 Shown; we need 17 more shown
Silver Marten - 20 Shown; we need 5 more shown
If you own/show any of the above varieties of mini rex, you
need to show them at the ARBA Convention in Louisville, KY
this year. If you're not able to attend, please do your best to
arrange for someone to show them on your behalf or find
transportation for them and have someone care for them for
you at Convention. If you want your variety to remain an
active, showable variety, the minimum required animals
must be shown.
Please feel free to reach out to me if I can be of further
assistance to you on this topic. I will gladly make myself
available to care for your animals, of any of these varieties,
to help ensure we get the numbers we need at the ARBA
Convention in Louisville, KY.
Respectfully submitted,
