You’ve worn the captain’s armband several
times since you’ve been at the club. How
would you describe your style of captaincy?
I think I should let others answer that
question! I just try to lead by example if I can,
with the work I put in and the kind of principles
and character I have are hopefully things that
people can follow. I’m totally committed to
putting everything I’ve got into it, both on the
training pitch with these lads and on every
single matchday as well.
Tonight’s opponents, Norwich City, were
your first club. Although it’s been 10 years or
so since you left, do you still have a soft spot
for them?
For sure. The town I grew up in is only about
25 minutes away, so I’ve got plenty of friends
who are Norwich City fans and season ticket
holders. It’s the club where I came through as
a kid and got my first opportunity, so I think
any player would look at them fondly and feel
some kind of affiliation. But that counts for
absolutely nothing tonight, when hopefully we
can go out and beat them.
What was the highlight of your time at
Carrow Road?
Winning back-to-back promotions (in 2010
and 2011), it has to be. The group of people
we had together was special – I think you’re
always connected by those times we had and
the celebrations we shared, putting in a hell
of a lot of work to achieve that. Those were
special times in my career and probably also
for most of the other guys who were involved.
