A REMINDER OF THE ANNUAL
SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE
AND THANKSGIVING

A reminder that this year’s Annual
Service of Remembrance will be
taking place here at the University
of Bolton Stadium on Monday
15th May, starting at pitch-side at
6.30pm.
As we celebrate the 100th
anniversary since we went to
Wembley for the FA Cup Final in
1923, scoring the first goal there
and winning the first FA Cup final
played there, the theme of the
service is “And Did Those Feet”
based upon a play that tells the
story of two Bolton families in the
build-up to the final.
It tells the story of people walking
to Wembley and is both funny
and very moving with the pain of
the First World War in everyone’s
memory. Within the service we
shall have extracts from the play
from actors who have recently
performed at Bolton Little Theatre.
The service will begin pitch-side as
we pause to remember and lay a
wreath. It will then continue in the
Platinum Suite when, during the
service, names of loved ones that
have been inscribed in the Book
of Remembrance or engraved on
a Memorial Stone during the past
year will be read out.
All the names of loved ones to be
remembered from previous years
will be displayed in the big screen.
Within the service, people will be
invited to come forward and light
candles in memory of their loved
ones.
Today, as we push for promotion
via the play-offs, and a possible
return to Wembley to remember
our first visit in 1923 and the Papa
Johns Trophy final last month, it
is good to pause and remember
those who have been so important
in our journey and our life.
Light refreshments will be
served following the service,
the Papa Johns Trophy will also
be on display and the Books of
Remembrance will be available for
you to look up the name of your
loved one.
