Para Dressage
In the CPEDI1* that preceded the
CDI at Addington, we were delighted
to see 13 year old Elan Williams &
Sara Jones-Williams’ WSH Something
Borrowed (Erwfforch Dewin Direidus
x Lechlade Quince) win all 3 of their
Grade 1 classes at their FEI international
debut. Trinny, as WSH Something
Borrowed is known at home, graded
into the SPSS Main Studbook in 2017
following in the footsteps of her WPCS
Sec D sire, Erwfforch Dewin Direidus
(deceased), who gained SPSS graded
stallion status in 2007 for his owners,
who are also the breeders of Trinny,
Anne Roberts & Jane Roberts of Welsh
Sport Horse International.

Eventing
We are delighted to announce that the
Connemara stallion, Glencarrig Dolphin
(Coosheen Stormboy x Coral Star), who
represented GB at the 2022 Pony
European Championships, will be
standing with the SPSS this year.
“Dougal”, as he’s known at home, has
been focussed on his successful
competition career in recent years. In
2022 alone, as well as his place on the
Pony Euros Team where he did a double
clear and helped the British team to 4th
place, he was 2nd in all three of the
British Pony Championships at Belsay,
the Cirencester Park CCI-S P2* and the
Aston-le-Walls Pony Trial. Now sold to
Tivoli Stud in Devon, Dougal and his new
rider, Elizabeth Jelfs, have started 2023
well, winning at BE100 then placing
3rd in the only Pony Trial to run to date.
With his excellent FEI Eventing record,
Glencarrig Dolphin joins the select group
of SPSS Elite Graded stallions.
Showjumping
SPSS graded stallion Pitchwood's
Ceasers Palace (SPSS Elite Grey Palace
x SPSS Elite Machno Carwyn) has been
doing well in British Showjumping 1m
and 1.10m classes so far this year with
Jessica Bryers. Bred by Natalia Thorpe,
Jessica & Ceasers Palace finished 6th on
a double clear at South View
Equestrian Centre in March, with another
SPSS passported Grey Palace son,
Champs Palace (x SPSS graded Aimbry
Chester) just one place behind, ridden
by Lily Jo Parrott and bred by her father
Jonathan.
SPSS Elite Accolade
The SPSS Elite Graded accolade is
awarded to SPSS graded ponies/horses
who have competed internationally, are
owned and/or bred by a current SPSS
member and in the case of stallions are
currently standing with the SPSS.

the Elite sashes, rosettes and certificates
to the owners and/or breeders of the
new SPSS Elite graded mares Machno
Gabrielle & WSH Something Borrowed
plus SPSS Elite graded stallion
Glencarrig Dolphin at our AGM and
Awards Ceremony in the Autumn. We
always look out Elite candidate mares
& stallions but if you have one that you
think may qualify or just has good results
that you feel are worthy of sharing,

celebrate success.
2023 Events
We’re starting to plan this year’s
Stallion & Mare Gradings so please

anticipate offering Mare Gradings at
the British Breeding Futurity events and
running one central, late summer,
Stallion Grading Day, date/venue to
be arranged. Youngstock Evaluations
will once again be in association with
the British Breeding Futurity
Supporting British Sports Pony
Breeders by licensing stallions,
grading mares, evaluating youngstock
& celebrating success!
