NEWS WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy Preparations are well under way for the inaugural “WBFSH Jumping Studbooks Global Champions Trophy”, which will take place just one week after the FEI/ WBFSH World Breeding Championships for Young Horses (WBCYH), from 28th September to 1st October 2023. Developed in collaboration with Tops Equestrian Events (TEE), this brand new concept of a global studbook team competition invites each WBFSH member studbook to put forward a team of five horses/team in each of five different age categories (5, 6, 7, 8 year-old horses, and stallion class for ages 8 & 9). What makes this competition so special is that the team selection is exclusively carried out by our member studbooks, given each of them the opportunity to promote their best horses and make their mark on the global stage. The aim of this event is for sport horse breeders to have an additional opportunity to showcase their most promising young horses at top level; to promote them in an authentic competition, and on a world class stage with one of the biggest show jumping organisers, in particular of the Longines Global Champions Tour. During this event an international auction of a selection of the competing horses will also be organised by TopsTrading. BE International British Bred successes this spring - Burnham Market International The 4*S International Class was the warm up for many heading to Badminton. Half of the Top TEN horses were British Bred which is exciting and increases the likelihood of a British Bred horse having a good chance at Badminton at the beginning of May. Best of the British was TREGILDER (Royal Concorde ex Trewins) bred by Preci Spark Event Horses and ridden by Oliver Townend, took 3rd place in this hot class with only 0.4 of a time penalty and 3.3 penalites off the winner. TREGILDER heads for Badminton and will definitely be one to watch. Next, was the British Bred Cevin Z son, HAPPY DAYS, bred by Emma Humphrey and ridden by Izzy Taylor. Happy Days is out of the full Thoroughbred mare, Vale Brook, who has classic TB lines such as Connaught and Tudorville. Vale Brook is a SHB(GB) mare. She has also produced another eventing gelding by Grafenstolz who competed at the Osberton 3*L in 2019. In 5th place came the highest placed British Bred mare, LUNA MIST, (by Alvescot Paper Moon ex Monsoon Matilda) ridden by Tom McEwen. In 8th, was the lovely mare JALAPENO III by the late Chilli Morning out of Maiden Voyage, bred by eventer and SHB(GB) Nick Gauntlett and ridden by Gemma Stevens took 8th place as part of their preparation for Badminton. In 9th, was COLORADO BLUE by the prolific eventing sire, Jaguar Mail, out of Rock Me Baby (Rock King) ridden by Austin O’Connor. Colorado Blue is another heading to Badminton. His dam, Rock Me Baby has been a brilliant eventing broodmare; already a dam of Balham Mist (CCI-4* by Mill Law) and the youngest progeny being Ventura Rock (CCI-3* by Newmarket Venture) is also with Auston O’Connor. Tregilder - By permission of Hannah Cole Photography As a true studbook event, the “WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy” is therefore a great opportunity for studbooks to make their mark, providing an international showroom for the best young products of the WBFSH member studbooks, and thereby highlighting the importance of breeding, represented by our individual breeders, as well as by our hard working studbooks, for our sport.
