Foaling season has started for many of
our breeders and plans are also
underway for the 2024 foal crop.
To help our mare owners select a
suitable sire, the NPS are featuring
different NPS licensed stallions on our
social media platforms over the Spring
which can help draw attention to some
different bloodline options.
We also sent three stallions to the British
Breeding Stallion Event at Addington in
February. These were Jane Laffey’s NPS
Sports Accredited BRP stallion
Rotherwood Jubilee Diamond
(Rotherwood Just A Peep x Rotherwood
Quick Step by Cusop Dimension),
Jan Carmichael’s BRP stallion Fielden
Mink’s Legacy (Ninfield Minks Legend x
Fielden Fieldmouse by Peterlitten xx) and
Martine Harding’s BRP Sport Category
and NPS Sports Accredited stallion The
Squire (Acado x Oldhills Princess Belle
by Rotherwood Peter Pan).
All three stallions proved to be excellent
ambassadors for the breed with
exemplary manners in the stables and
athletic displays in the main ring.
Also in February we celebrated the
winners of the 2022 NPS/Derby House
British Riding Pony Performance Scheme.
We had some excellent entries and the
Sports Category registered Winston
Classic Gold (Silver Heaven x Ozzys
Cooleen) owned by Sarah Davis and
bred by Mai Rath was our Overall
Champion topping both the Dressage
and Jumping sections.
Winning the Utility section and
placing second overall in the
Performance scheme was our first ever
driving entry, Beccas Biddy’s Glee
(Wendem Glory x Becca Biddy Blue)
bred by Mr D Hinde and owned by
Jennifer Bernard.
Moor Hall Peter Pan (Stanley Grange
Cocksure x Moor Hall Tinkerbell),
owned and bred by Mrs J Newnham &
Miss M Godden, had another successful
result in the show ring winning the points
for the in hand showing section and
placing overall 3rd. Then in 4th place
and the winner of the ridden showing
section was Jan Champney’s Penrock
Perfect Puzzle (Copilot x Daria Tj) bred
by Dr Michelle Findlay.
Winners and all entrants have received
some amazing prizes, such as rugs and
lunge lines for these superstar ponies,
which have been generously provided
by Derby House. The NPS cannot thank
Derby House enough for their
continued support with this unique
scheme for 2023. We would also like
to thank all who entered in 2022 who
received a generous voucher from the
sponsors. We look forward to getting
started with the scheme for 2023.
Utility section winner and overall runner up in the

Becca Biddy’s Glee
The winter dressage season has seen
excellent qualification results for a
number of British Riding Ponies. Emily
Watson riding her mother Kerry’s mare
Raemoir Broadway Baby (Whalton
Above Suspicion x Horsehill Bon Bon
by Creden Herewardian, bred by Kim
Hunter) has qualified for the Under 21
Finals at the BD Winter Championships
at Hartpury and gained 3rd place at the
Area Festivals at Elementary.
Deborah Walton-Smith’s very consistent
eventing pony Romanno Spotless
(Stanley Grange Regal Heights x
Chiddock Spot On by Chiddock
Fankino, bred by Jennifer Gilchrist) is
now adding dressage to her repertoire.
Ridden by Laura Browne the 10 year old
mare has been awarded a wildcard for
the Winter Nationals after an excellent
result at the Wellington Winter
Regionals.
Winter Nationals qualified Romanno Spotless.

Stanley Grange Heir Supreme (Dolphin

Scent by Small-land Maytino, bred
by Jerome Harforth) ridden by Emma
Dunkley has earned direct qualification
to the Winter Nationals after taking the
Elementary Silver title at the Prestige
Equestrian Winter Area Festival. The pair
also finished 4th in the Medium Bronze.
Other British Riding Ponies who are
having a successful early Spring season
include Alina Kozersky and Tandridge
Diplomat (Cusop Dimension x
Millwoodgrange Penelope by Colbeach
Splendour bred by Joanna Adams) won
have been winning and placing in FEI
Pony classes at High Profile shows and
Quest winner Rotherwood Penny Less
(Rotherwood Peter Pan x Rotherwood
Penny-Wise bred by Mrs Liz
Mansfield-Parnell). Huge
congratulations to all the riders, owners
and breeders who have started 2023 in
such strong form.
