Overview Extracellular Vesicles
Exosomes are small, membranebound
extracellular vesicles (EVs) that
are released by cells, such as
adipose-derived stem cells/
stroma cells, mesenchymal
stem cells /stroma cells(MSC),
dendritic cells, T and B cells.
These vesicles can contain a wide
variety of molecules, such as
proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids,
that are derived from the cell of
origin.
They play a key role in intercellular
communication, as they can transfer
contents to other cells and influence
their behavior. They have been
implicated in a wide variety of
physiological and pathological
processes, including immune
regulation, tissue repair, and cancer
progression. They are also used as a
tool for drug delivery and as a
biomarker for disease diagnosis and
prognosis.
Why is defined media so excellent?
• Ethics: FBS is derived from the blood of unborn calves, raising ethical concerns regarding animal
welfare. In contrast, defined media eliminate the need for FBS, reducing reliance on animalderived
components. .
• Consistency: Defined media ensure consistent and reproducible manufacturing processes as it is
precisely formulated.
• Control: Precisely formulated composition provides control over exosome production and
thereby improves scalability and efficiency in manufacturing
• Optimization: Tailoring media composition enhances exosome yield, purity, and functionality.
• Standardization: Eliminating undefined components like serum ensures standardized exosome
preparation and uniform reproducible results.
• Safety: Minimizing contaminants and unwanted effects with defined media ensures high-quality
exosomes such as adverse immune reactions associated with undefined components..
• Compliance: Meeting regulatory guidelines and ethical considerations in exosome production.
Defined media reduce the risk of potential contaminants or unwanted biological effects By precisely
defining the media composition, unwanted variations and impurities can be minimized, ensuring
the production of high-quality exosomes.
