Promoted side courting first win

NEWLY-PROMOTED Malvern
A will take another shot at
netting their first premier 1 win
tomorrow, while Burnham A
chase their seventh victory in a
row.
After finishing top of premier
2 at the end of the first round,
Malvern A went down to
Greenpark B 62-38 in their
premier 1 debut last week.
Malvern A were in contention
at the end of the first quarter
with a 15-10 lead, but Greenpark
B proved too strong.
Malvern A take on Halswell
Rugby League A at the Selwyn
Sports Centre tomorrow night.
Halswell also lost their first
game of the round 66-26 against
Greenpark A.
It was Halswell’s first loss since
they went down to unbeaten
Burnham A 54-26 on May 25.
Greenpark A dominated the
young Halswell team in all four
quarters after they pulled away
to a 19-6 lead within the first
12min.
Meanwhile, defending
champions Burnham A take on
Greenpark B.
Burnham will need a stronger
first half than they had against
West Melton A last week, where
they trailed 23-22 at the break
before turning up the heat to win
56-41. Burnham shooter Olivia
Clark came on in the second
quarter to land 38 goals from 45
attempts and lead them to the
win.
Burnham’s defence now face
the difficult task of halting
Greenpark B shooters Samantha
Woodgate and Jaymie Philpott
who netted 62 goals from 72
attempts (86 per cent) in their
win over Malvern.
Lincoln A take on Greenpark
A after notching up their
fourth consecutive win last
week. A strong second quarter
saw Lincoln pull away from
Broadfield A to win 50-31.
West Melton A and Broadfield
A clash tomorrow for the first
time this season. Both come
off losses last week and will be
hungry to return to winning
ways.
