GET TO KNOW GRAN CANARIA I CONOCE GRAN CANARIA EDICIÓN 28
Art, flavours and fun:
the 'Moya Dessert' contest turns
Villa de Moya into a culinary paradise
The agri-food 'Moya Dulce' or ‘Moya Dessert’
fair left an indelible mark on the Villa de Moya.
A parade of eager visitors started pouring into
the streets from first light on 5th June, keen to
explore the numerous stalls that lined the picturesque
calle Miguel Hernández. These colourful
nooks and crannies brought together a wide
variety of attractions, fusing local craftsmanship,
locally sourced fresh produce and captivating
handmade works of art.
"We were overjoyed to see how the streets of
the old town were invaded by such enthusiastic
crowds. This event was a unique opportunity to
showcase the wonders that our municipality has
to offer. We managed to put together various
activities, workshops and a show for the youngsters,
accompanied by a gastronomic fair and
live music with a tribute to Manny Manuel. In addition,
our popular 'Moya Dessert' contest, held
to select the top dessert in the municipality, was
a roaring success", Mayor Raúl Afonso proudly explained.
The event was packed full of activities, aimed at all
ages and tastes. Visitors had the opportunity to taste
the exquisite desserts presented in the competition,
as well as the gastronomic products on offer at the
different stalls. The many delicacies included the
emblematic and light sponge cakes, tasty cheeses
and aromatic honey, all authentic treasures of the
region. The councillor responsible for the event,
Belén Rivero, enthusiastically pointed out: "We are
delighted with the overwhelming response and acceptance
of this fair. It was our first festive weekend
and the streets were bursting with life and energy".
The agri-food fair slotted in seamlessly with the
long-awaited "Best Moya Dessert" competition.
Open to all culinary enthusiasts, the jury had the
tough task of selecting the winning entries after
tasting each of the varied creations, which ranged
from succulent tarts to delicate sweets, delighting
all palates eager to experience new flavours.
Simultaneously, a captivating show took place at the
charming portico of the church, starring 'La Pandilla
de Drilo', who captured the attention of a young children’s
audience with their exciting adventures and
antics. The show was followed by the exciting award
ceremony for the best dessert. But that wasn't all:
the event culminated with an energetic tribute to
Manny Manuel, which got everyone in the audience
moving to the rhythm of his music. And to crown
a memorable day, the traditional horse races were
reserved for the afternoon.
Villa de Moya demonstrates an immense desire to
celebrate and a clear willingness to enjoy the festivities
of San Antonio de Padua in style. Each of
the events organised was worthy of a round of applause,
as they highlighted the festive spirit and cultural
richness of this charming municipality.
