E N G L I S H A S A S E C O N D L A N G U A G E ( E S L ) E S L ✦ E S L ✦ E S L ✦ E S L 14 TESTING SCHEDULE FOR NEW ESL STUDENTS AND NEW ENROLLMENT POLICY All students new to the Palo Alto Adult School English as a Second Language (ESL) program must take a placement test before attending the classes listed in this section. The testing dates and times for the Winter quarter are listed below. Please call (650) 329-3752 to make an appointment to take the test in the morning or evening. The test takes approximately three hours. Please be on time and bring your address, phone number and emergency contact information. Students wishing to attend class in the Winter quarter must enroll for an entire eight week session. The Winter quarter will begin on Monday, January 14 and end on Thursday, March 7. (Note: Students who leave the class before the end of the session may not re-enroll until the beginning of the next quarter.) Students will need to buy a textbook for the class. There is no childcare. No class (holidays) January 21 and February 18. To enroll in the Fall quarter, you must call 329-3752 to make an appointment to take a placement test on one of the testing dates listed in this section. Classes are free. Por la mañana las clases se ofrecen en la escuela Greendell, en Palo Alto. Por la tarde, las clases se ofrecen en la escuela secundaria de Palo Alto (Palo Alto High School). Students will be introduced to the sounds and letters of English, sight words and basic grammar. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to more fully participate in the ESL class that corresponds to their oral fluency. Students will need to buy a textbook for the class. In this eight-week course you’ll learn the essentials of academic reading, writing, and listening skills, discover local educational resources and create and polish a resumé and cover letter for your job search. New INTRODUCCIÓN AL ALFABETISMO Esta clase es para estudiantes que no pueden leer ni escribir en su lengua materna y todavía no han aprendido a hacerlo en inglés con el apoyo necesario para el aprendizaje del idioma.
