M U S I C JAZZ VOCALIST– MEL TORMé: Part 2 Instructor: Dr. Herb Wong This is an extension of a historical profile of Mel Tormé, who was not only one of the greatest vital male singers in jazz, but was also a great singer in general. He sang with a multitude of artists from Artie Shaw and Ella Fitzgerald, to Buddy Rich and George Shearing. Vocal jazz groups influenced by Mel-Tones Modernaires, Hi-Lo's, Four Freshman, Rare Silk, et al. will be included. This course teaches the guitar student the basics of good playing, an introduction to written music and an introduction to playing by ear. The instructor/creator of this course is a classicallytrained musician (CSM and UC Berkeley), but grew up in a “traditional folk music” family. Materials fee is about $15. Class limited to 16 students. Students must be available for the concert given at the end of each quarter (Sunday, March 24, 2013 for Winter quarter). Learn to play by sight and listening, right-hand techniques, as well as continuing to work through the Carcassi text. Materials fee is about $15. Class limited to 16 students. Students will have their own electronic keyboards in class. Students should have a keyboard/piano for practice. If the level you register for is not appropriate, the instructor will place you in the appropriate level. Prochaska Prerequisite: Students must own a playable ukulele (any size/ voice), and be able to hold and strum the instrument. No prior experience in reading music or playing the ukulele necessary. Learn the basics of playing a ukulele: conventional tuning, basic chord positions and strumming the instrument. Also learn to play some popular, folk and traditional songs for the ukulele. For more than 65 years, we have offered preschool programs organized primarily for parent education. Parents develop a deeper understanding of early childhood development and parenting skills through adult discussion classes, formal and informal observations, and community exchanges. The school provides children and their families a nurturing play-based curriculum helping children develop in all areas including creativity, cooperation, peaceful conflict resolution, positive communication, fine and gross motor skills and kindergarten readiness. PRESCHOOL FAMILY 4120 MIDDLEFIELD ROAD PreSchool Family is a parent education/ participation program, serving families with children from birth through five years. Children under the age of two attend one morning per week with a parent and the parents attend two evening classes per month. Two year-olds attend two mornings per week, three-year-olds attend three mornings per week and four-year-olds attend four mornings per week. Parents work in the classroom one morning per week regardless of the age of their child and attend two afternoon or evening parent education classes per month.
